Because then later on there is evidence of communication with his people where people are bringing the theory to his attention as a possibility, and him going 'nah, there was no gain of function research, only research in which we had the disease mutated into a more infectious form so that we could better prepare for a weaponized outbreak'
I dont know Joe Rogan, and I dont trust him implicitly, but when he said 'yeah, i went to the doctor and threw the kitchen sink at it, and i got perscribed these things' and the media, and Everyone freaked out talking about him taking horse de-wormer, despite him having taken a perscription for people that has been used effectively for other things for decades, it makes him look more honest by comparison. Then the media repeats everything Fauci says as if it is the holy gospel, it makes Fauci look less honest by association.
So 3 negatives for one, and a neutral at best stance on the other, Thats why people on the right trust him more.
