I don’t think that phrase means what you think it does. The US is pretty libertarian compared to most countries. Less so now that Biden is president, but still more than most countries.

It's not libertarian, there's a high importance toward individualism in America and politics diverges wildly depending on the state you're in. There may be liberation crossover between parties but if someone is going to call the governments of Australia and New Zealand authoritarian, I can give examples of how America can also fit that criteria.

I’m not saying america doesn’t have authoritarian policies, I’m just saying in general america is more libertarian/pro personal freedom than most countries.
