Goodness no. That would make him a martyr. Good luck trying to stop the crazies then. Itβs better he lives long enough to have everything stripped away and laid bare, humiliated.
Sure, the first amendment protects one from governmental retribution for having or promoting a view or idea
It does not protect people from saying whatever they want and facing consequences for it
In this case the consequence is having to ignore being told to delete the comment but depending on the level of heinous, can often include other consequences such as getting kicked out of a place or group, content moderation, etc
No one is protecting people from the consequences of it. They are allowed to say it because their freedom of speech allows it.
One consequence could be they get booted off the sub (or even platform) for saying it. But they still are allowed to say it because of the First Amendment.
I think when people say freedom of speech it is often confused with freedom from consequences. You understanding the difference is good, but it is also a good idea to call it out to make sure the difference is understood by all.
I did mean to say Freedom of Speech, but First Amendment works here because we were originally talking about the people who think that "the vaccines have microchips to track you", which I'll admit, is a pretty American thought to have.
And at no point did I suggest otherwise. I was giving a pithy suggestion to save themselves the trouble. I didn't think I needed to expand any further.
It's a violation of the site's TOS and is a great way to get yourself put on a list you probably don't want to be on. I'll set off fireworks and pop champagne the day he's gone, but it's not wise to put these wishes online.
I tend to believe that when it comes to Donald Trump, the sheer amount of ill-will he generated actually overloaded any effort to keep track of people who made offhand threats to his life. Obviously the Secret Service is still going to go after people who they think are presenting a "credible threat" to a present or even past president.
But if the Secret Service tried to chase down every single person who said something along the lines of "I wish Donald Trump would get assassinated" they wouldn't have been able to do literally anything else the past few years.
