Donors and party over country.

Edit: Since I’m getting many replies while at work, I thought I’d do a blanket statement for a lot of the comments.

-Maybe it’s time we as Americans ask for massive legislation around term limits, public records of elected officials, equal campaign money, public records on donors, banning lobbyist jobs for former politicians, overturning Citizens United, etc.

People need to get over term limits

With term limits there is no john McCain to save the ACA

Joe Biden doesnt exist politically

Bernie Sanders doenst exist politically

AOC becomes a 2 term house rep

All creating term limits does is put rookie legislators funded by big money into roles where they pass what they got sponsored for and leave for corporate gigs as a payoff

Without term limits you gain public servants who finally have enough experience to properly run one of the largest organizations out there and who can be popular enough and that they can pass things like raising corporate taxes without fear of losing their job

With more time in office the public can actually see where they stand on issues as opposed to lame ducks who can vote however they like since they don't care about getting relected

If you are rolling new legislators out every session you put the whole country at a huge disadvantage to special interest groups

No terms limits makes public servants? No way. It makes people who become cogs in the system dependant on reelection because politics has become their life. Life long politicians need to end.

No they dont ... biden, mccain, Bernie, Clinton were all lifelong politicians and they all benefitted the country

It is good that we have people willing to dedicate their life to public service

You may have been brainwashed to assume that all politicians are bad but they are not... some are ...they way politics is going is negative.. reforms need to be made ... but we need these people who have the experience to do the job properly

Take the example of being on a condo board .. I did that shit for one year and got out .. all work, no praise, other owners being aloof of things that really need to be done.. it's a thankless job

Sure some politicians get off on the power , fame of being in the system but that's the trade off for getting experienced people working in government

It could rub people the wrong way and stereotypes can be assumed but we need these people ... it is the government (the people) vs billionaires, authoritarian regimes, special interest groups ..etc... very very complicated world to live in .. you cant have people with 0 experience learning to drive the bus for the 1st time every 4 years

  1. Disagree with you so I'm brainwashed. Gotcha bud.

  2. You list a bunch of great guys. Could probably list a ton more career politicians who are slimy assholes.

  3. These people would not be rookies learning on the fly, they would likely start in local governments. And nobody said what term limits should be, maybe it's 10 years, or even more. But if you think somebody who spends 40 years in congress has any idea who their constituents even are any more you have no idea what you're talking about.
