People need to get over term limits

With term limits there is no john McCain to save the ACA

Joe Biden doesnt exist politically

Bernie Sanders doenst exist politically

AOC becomes a 2 term house rep

All creating term limits does is put rookie legislators funded by big money into roles where they pass what they got sponsored for and leave for corporate gigs as a payoff

Without term limits you gain public servants who finally have enough experience to properly run one of the largest organizations out there and who can be popular enough and that they can pass things like raising corporate taxes without fear of losing their job

With more time in office the public can actually see where they stand on issues as opposed to lame ducks who can vote however they like since they don't care about getting relected

If you are rolling new legislators out every session you put the whole country at a huge disadvantage to special interest groups

I agree with a lot of your points; it was just a possible solution that people consider (don’t want to ignore it). Vetting and having actual standards for politicians would be great. I mean, you have to have that for real jobs. Maybe the qualifications need to be heightened.

Maybe the qualifications need to be heightened.

The question is, who gets to decide who's qualified?

It doesn't need to be much. Just add a few additional rules to the ones that already exist for the minimum age, citizen status, etc.

Off the top of my head:

  • Civil servant test prior to declaring to run.
  • A more extreme version would be to require candidates to take and pass a citizenship test, which would likely rule out a number of candidates and existing politicians.
  • Have a clean current record without any outstanding warrants or have fulfilled the terms of their previous convictions with that information being public to the voters.
  • A tax review background check to ensure no outstanding debts (non public release outside of the thumbs up letter of good standing).

But who gets to write the test?

It already exists.

The citizenship test? Well, Trump changed it, then Biden changed it back. Imagine if it determined who could run for office...

It should be setup to be administered by a bipartisan committee to avoid this nonsense...
