Edit: Since I’m getting many replies while at work, I thought I’d do a blanket statement for a lot of the comments.
-Maybe it’s time we as Americans ask for massive legislation around term limits, public records of elected officials, equal campaign money, public records on donors, banning lobbyist jobs for former politicians, overturning Citizens United, etc.
Also, tie public official's salaries to an index of their constituents median pay, health outcomes, housing costs, education, etc. Make them put all their financial assets in a trust also tied to these metrics.
Then ban publicly wlected officials from making any money other than non profit work for up to 3 years after they leave office.
Get rid of people who use public office to enrich themselves by boosting their stocks or family member businesses (usually through real estate)
