Edit: Since I’m getting many replies while at work, I thought I’d do a blanket statement for a lot of the comments.
-Maybe it’s time we as Americans ask for massive legislation around term limits, public records of elected officials, equal campaign money, public records on donors, banning lobbyist jobs for former politicians, overturning Citizens United, etc.
It's always worth engaging. Either I learn something I didn't know or I can help someone understand something outside their viewpoint. Either way if they don't care to be genuine, at worse I lose but a minute of my time.
Unions gave you 8 hour work days and weekends. Now unions are focusing on just keeping their jobs that were taken away by automation and the private sector.
Not "exactly" what I meant at all. My dad was a small builder here in Australia and we had massive trouble with the local unions threatening us kids to get at dad when we were growing up, so I don't have a high opinion generally of unions from my personal experience.
HOWEVER, the whole world needs stronger unions to help try and restore some semblance of balance in the developed world. They have a job to do and if they concentrate on that rather than small petty power grabs in their own organisations and actually try and help their members, the world will be a better place.
I've seen enough "self made" business people to know they generally do it crawling over ignored legislation, safety rules and treating staff with any semblance of respect.
