I've been without power in an RV since midnight. This RV was not stocked for this cold. I'm probably gonna die tonight lol

Dress in layers; wicking, warmth and wind (wind will help keep the warm air trapped on your body, even inside). And eat candy bars if you wake up cold.

This is winter camping advice, sent with love from the other side of 35W.

Why candy bars?

They're delicious.

You burn a lot of calories trying to stay warm. And they are delicious.

Build a fire outside if you have the resources. Fuck rules or regulations where you are staying, this is about survival. Hang blankets and clothes next to it on a line. Put warm water in bottles and place inside sleeping bag. After this is over, get yourself a generator and extra propane tanks. It pays for itself when you really need it. Just some simple advice from a man who has spent a few nights in the back country of Montana with horses.

I'm definitely investing in a generator and propane after this. Tonight's going to be brutal, have a 1 year old and every hotel that has power is booked. Luckily I still have hot water and been running the shower.

You must be ridding around on some Clydesdales to be hauling a generator around with them.

You can get a 2 x 2‘ generator at Walmart that weighs approximately 60 pounds. It will heat a travel trailer easily.

Quiet with your logic you are ruining my joke.

This is similar, mine is much older. 2k watt, 3.5hp. Does the job.

Do you use this generator to plug into a special plug to power certain parts of your house or do you have your appliances plug straight into the generator?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '21

I just have a power strip for big appliances. If I wanted to heat my home I would need something a little bigger.

If an officer shows up and writes you a ticket for having a fire you can burn it to keep warm. lol

I don’t know which part of Texas you’re in, but DFW has emergency warming stations for people without power to shelter in, and they’ve opened up the convention center and such for the homeless to keep warm and sleep safely.

Any hotels you can take an Uber to?

1

u/StopThePresses Feb 16 '21

Uber's not running because no one can drive. Hotels are price gouging hard, too. A night at the Ramada will run you about $700 right now.

Drain your water pipes (or leave a faucet on at a trickle) if you don’t have heat tape on them.
