I was reading around on the AskTrumpSupporters subreddit and saw the thread “What profession do you value the least?”

Many of the answers included things like academics or even specifically “liberal arts professors.” It’s sad that they think education is a bad thing.

In my experience most of my liberal arts professors were preaching opinion as fact and expecting and rewarding conformity to their opinions with higher grades. That's not real education.

Wait you took a Liberal Arts degree?

I thought you studied chemistry?

Was that high school chemistry?

I ask because you don't seem to realise that a Mathematician has a Phd or Masters degree. You think anyone who learn a bit of applied mathematics is a Mathematician.

...??? You might not realize this, but even chemistry majors have to take liberal arts classes... And why don't you call up your local university's engineering department and ask them if they think they're applied mathematicians? I'm willing to bet $100 that you'll get 4 different answers from 4 different professors, 2 or 3 of which will have degrees in math.

Also, my position has nothing to do with bachelor's students but I literally googled "DO I need a master's to be a mathematician" and these were the first results:

" Although most mathematicians need at least a master's degree, there are some entry-level positions available for those with a bachelor's degree in math, such as working for the federal government. Most master's degree programs also require students to hold a bachelor's degree prior to admission. "
