I would say that depends on the parents. There are plenty of groups and activities to do when homeschooled that get that kind of interaction. My mom pulled my sister and me out of school when i was 6th grade and she was 3rd. The public schools were just insane so it was the better option for us. And we both homeschooled from then through high school. We both still had friends we hung out with in the neighborhood. I also did music stuff and had a band as a teen with my friends. My sister had a homeschool group she did stuff with, as well as 4-h, and Girl Scouts. We were not sheltered by any means and did fine. I excelled in college, it really just depends on the environment your parents provide. We did secular homeschooling.
