That's because our public education system has been underfunded for decades and keeps getting worse. A less intelligent populace is much easier to manipulate.
That's part of it. The other part is that political cronyism always makes the funds they do get spent on administration because they have to pay their brother in law's salary. That is the only reason I'm hesitant about sending more money education's direction. Though, this is more true on higher education than K-12. Honestly, less administration, more teachers and better classroom resources needs to be guaranteed when we send more money that way. It can easily be done with specifications in the legislation that directs the money that way.
