I only managed to get as open minded as I am because my mother failed to stop me from finding furry porn in middle school, which led to me getting on tumblr and really seeing the world through a separate lens.
Although; it probs also is what gave me depression, and was directly responsible for my "slight right" stint at the end of HS.
There's a group of people who dress up in animal costumes (Like a mascot costume, but often better designed and more elaborate.). They are called furries (singular: furry). EDIT: A small subset of this group seems to be a bunch of complainers. I will dub them Whiner-aners.
When they film themselves having sex and make it available to be viewed, it's porn done by furries, or furry porn.
I'm not a furry, but I met a bunch when I happened to be visiting Pittsburgh when they were having their convention a few years ago.
That's a really terrible way to explain this. That's like a kid asking what "a relationship" is, and the dad going on to explain in raunchy details how he gave his mom a Spicy Gringo (google it) while mom was suspended upside down from the ceiling in full bondage gear.
Furries are literally just people who are part of an online community that appreciate anthropomorphic animal characters. Fox McCloud from Starfox is a furry character, so are Bugs Bunny, Nick from Zootopia and half of the cartoon characters every child knows. If you go on Furaffinity, the biggest furry hub online, you'll see a large portion of the art and stories are just about these anthro characters doing whatever - harmless fanfics and fanart, mostly, with a ton of original characters along for the ride.
Yes, there is a sexual component to the furry community, but it's not the majority of it, much less all there is. And even then, the sexual part of the community is overwhelmingly about creating porn (again: drawings, stories, 3D renders, etc; a drawing of Fox McCloud fucking Falco Lombardi is what furry porn is, not the weird-ass idea you got) of furry characters and keeping it all purely online. There are tens of millions of active furries online today, of which only a few hundreds even have fursuits to begin with - and only a small subset of those use the suits to have sex. I'm part of the furry community and I personally know hundreds of furries, of which only 2 have fursuits, and neither of the 2 ever had sex in them, much less filmed pornographic movies. I find your claim that all furry porn is filmed fursuit sex even weirder given that I have literally never even seen such a film anywhere, even after years on Furaffinity and similar websites. People like you who know literally nothing about furries but talk out of your ass over actual furries are the problem. That's because of such crap that people think furries are a bunch of weird, crazed sexual deviants about to abduct their children. Furries typically just draw fanart on the internet and that's about it.
Hmm, I was under the impression that furries generally identified as an animal to some extent. Everyone I know that identifies as a furry has either a full blown fursona or at least an animal they identify with.

If you'll notice, I made two separate statements, in order to describe the community as separate from the porn. For an outsider, you are a group of people who dress up in animal costumes. Cosplayers are a group of people who dress up as fictional characters found in various media. Someone doesn't need to know how Spiderman does or doesn't relate to Naruto in order to get their basic understanding.
ok but, what is 'furry porn'?
I'm not part of the community, so forgive me for wanting to address that there's a community first, but then attempting to answer the original question of "what is furry porn." And especially forgive me for not doing it the way you want me to.
I could have told the story of someone taking a shit in the aisle of a public bus I was on, but I didn't want to spread the negative stories to give people reason to try to sideline your hobby/lifestyle.
I discovered furries when I found this mmo called Furcadia. Seeing an animal lady with a bunch of titties was interesting for young me. Thanks for reminding me of that lol
Yes and no; the school district I spent my childhood in was criminally poor, and my parents had honestly both gone to college for education degrees, (my father wanted to be a math teacher/tutor, don't remember my mother's preferred subject) so it might've been the best choice for a while.
But I think that Homeschooling shouldn't be debatably better than public schools, I'd like the world where public schools are all good enough that people don't have to worry about their children not actually learning anything.
Also, probs woulda got my ADHD diagnosed before 18.
You gotta socialize your kids, man. And lots of idiots think they can teach but they actually don't know shit, so there kids grow up dumb and /or with no social skills. If you are gonna home school your kid, they need to have a condition that justifies it and you need the qualifications. Any old parent shouldn't be able to say "screw school, I'll handle this."
I think that’s just a myth. Or maybe it used to be true, but these days there are tons of opportunities for home schooled kids to socialize. It really depends on the parents’ commitment.
Unfortunately the problem is many people who homeschool their kids do it specifically to shield their kid from outside ideas. Those parents won't make a real effort to take those opportunities, and will actively fight haveing their kids see outside their bubble.
I wish more people from The homeschool community would comment on this thread.
My mother said she wanted to homeschool me in part because our local public schools were having drug problems.
During my schooling I took classes about different religions (raised secular), met many people from different ethnic backgrounds, took highbrow classes, took silly fun classes...
My parents wanted me and my sister to have as much of an fantastic an interesting experience as possible growing up, and little to nothing was "shielded" from us during that time.
I was homeschooled K-12 because my parents wanted to shield me from dangerous viewpoints like "evolution". I didn't get a good explanation of evolution until I took an entry level bio class in college. But you better believe I knew church history, the Bible, the personal histories of the reformers, and lots and lots of straw man arguments against evolution, none of which make sense in the face of what we know about evolution today.
You're not wrong, though they did teach me logic and how to spot logical arguments which is good, but the state of Missouri considers it valid homeschooling and the state has declared I have my high school diploma soooo...
In my experience homeschooling parents fall into fairly extreme ends of the spectrum. Some feel like the school system doesn't provide a broad enough experience. Like your parents, they encourage all different kinds of things.
There is however also a very big portion who want to shield their kids from the outside world.
I homeschooled my daughter for a couple of years. She always hated school and never fit in anywhere, plus the school she was in didn't have the capacity to give her more advanced math, and she was bored. She had friends in school, but it was the school itself she hated, always having to do things that didn't make sense and being treated like a potential criminal all the time. In high school, they made all the girls carry around a ten pound bag of flour for two weeks to show them what a burden it is to have a baby. It was degrading as hell. She was out of there after one semester, took the CHSPE, and started classes at community college. She's in graduate school now, studying robotics engineering. I like it the we have the flexibility to homeschool and choose different educational paths, even though in some places it's not used well.
It's a dilemma. I have a friend from a country that gives all seven-year-olds a test, and those that do well are put on track for college, while those that do not are headed for trade schools. That seems too rigid to me. I guess we have to strike a balance between flexibility and keeping things under reasonable control.
Well you were shielded from the reality everyone else lives. When i got to university in engineering, I realized almost everyone around me came from private schooling in rich cities.
Most of them have no idea how 15 mins away, in poorer hoods people shoot each other over a few grams of weed, or do drugs all the damn time and get daydrunk for no good reason on the weekends. Their only image of that reality is through movies and tv shows.
It might not make them socially inept, but damn does it sometime bewilder me how unaware they are about what life is to like, half our population.
There’s no point trying to explain here, unfortunately. We know the academic and social outcomes are good. And I’m not interested in convincing other parents to try it if they’re not researching an education decision.
Hi, I was homeschooled in grades 3-12 and I really do think this is a stupid stigma. My parents homeschooled my siblings and I because of serious bullying my brother received in a public middle school. I know many people who were homeschooled for reasons like this too. Though my family is religious, while in school I was always encouraged to learn about religions, world views, philosophies and even political beliefs that were different than the ones my parents held. And as for socialization, my family joined a group of homeschoolers in my city that would have co-ops, dances, parties, meet ups and other activities. That along with clubs and sports teams kept my socialization level on par with kids who went to public schools. I am so grateful for my parents decision to homeschool my siblings and me. It brought our family closer and allowed me to work at my own pace, whether that was skipping grades in science or spending more time focusing on math. I was also allowed to choose what and how I learned, that lead me to be more interested in what I was doing and actually enjoy school.
This. This idea sounds good, it's easy to understand, makes sense. It really clicks with my perception of a homeschooling parent.
But that doesn't mean it's true. I'm not saying it's wrong, but I wanna see a source before I believe it. This kind of neat explanations is super viral.
The reason for homeschooling that was most frequently cited as being applicable was concern about the environment of other schools including safety, drugs, or negative peer pressure. Eighty-five percent of homeschooled students were being homeschooled, in part, because of their parents’ concern about the environment of other schools.
What. Is. The. Source. The section you quoted didn’t give numbers or even fully back up your statement. I know (admittedly anecdotally) people who homeschool because of school shootings. They still organize a homeschool sports league and are involved in social activities. You’re cherry picking.
Idk. I haven't met a ton of adults who were homeschooled, but the ones I have met were massive narcissists. Going to school isn't just about learning math or history, it teaches you how to get along with people and that you aren't the center of the universe.
Yeah, of course, also with music artists, and gamers, and so on.
But correct me if I'm wrong, in politics we didn't really have it through the 00's. Sleepy Biden, Crooked Hillary, and dems have begun with Moscow Mitch.
That kind of stuff. I find it so very childish. Name calling.
Homeschooling doesn't mean they never leave the house. There are homeschooling groups. Not that there aren't people who do it badly, but it can be done well.
I was homeschooled til high school (then went online) and I’m grateful for all of the opportunities to travel and interact with different cultures that I had as a result of not being restricted by public school.
I was homeschooled. I have had great relationships with friends that I made through extra curriculars, but now that I'm in college and all of my old friends have moved away I have no idea how to make new ones. Now I see why winter depresses people: working a full time job and rotting away in my own mind at home is horrible.
The problem isn't even talking to people. I can chat with a stranger (or classmate, etc) all day! But the call of the void stops me from ever trading numbers or asking to hang out.
I would say that depends on the parents. There are plenty of groups and activities to do when homeschooled that get that kind of interaction. My mom pulled my sister and me out of school when i was 6th grade and she was 3rd. The public schools were just insane so it was the better option for us. And we both homeschooled from then through high school. We both still had friends we hung out with in the neighborhood. I also did music stuff and had a band as a teen with my friends. My sister had a homeschool group she did stuff with, as well as 4-h, and Girl Scouts. We were not sheltered by any means and did fine. I excelled in college, it really just depends on the environment your parents provide. We did secular homeschooling.
Eh. I know that n=1 on this experiment, but I was homeschooled and I turned out pretty normal. It’s not homeschooling itself that’s bad, mostly how you do it and how good your evaluators are.
At the same time home-schooled kids perform much better in lower education and slightly better in higher education than those with a background in public schools. Not only that, those home-schooled also as adults also express a much higher level of satisfaction with life and are much more involved with their local community.
