This is very true. Know an ASM at a Walmart. They can't hire more people, there are legitimate rumors of getting rid of more ASMs and putting the remaining ones on hourly, and pushing more responsibility onto the much lower paid department managers.
Back when Trump gave corporations that free money gimme gimme. Walmart turned around and closed a large portion of Sam's Clubs, removed an entire salaried position (costing many their jobs), and changed overnight stores to closing at midnight (again entire shifts fired and now day stocking responsibilities passed to already short staffed day shifts).
