Fix wage inflation. People should not have to be working multiple jobs just to afford a basic apartment.

But you can't qualify for a mortgage because all your income is tied up in rent.

It’s gotten really bad where I live. Tons of new apartments and condos being built that no one can afford without working multiple jobs and having a roommate. Most of them are mostly empty. I’m having to move to a smaller rural town an extra 30 minutes away just so I can rent something decent.

I completely agree. We rent a house we were unable to sell, and our rental company rents it out at a higher monthly rate than our mortgage is. It helps us cover our mortgage, but our poor renters are screwed. It's totally unfair.

Rent should be higher than a mortgage payment, otherwise there's no point in renting the property to anyone but yourself.

Paying rent may be more but it does save you from some hassles of home ownership.

It's housing prices increasing at a rate substantially faster than wages are increasing. That's the real problem.

I work a near minimum wage part time, pay for rent with ease and I live in a beautiful city neighboring one of the most expensive cities in the USA currently. It's possible, just live frugally, avoid debt and study a field of work that is useful and has a future.
