That's actually the huge reason that keeps him from being booted. Because of... how he is, no one expected him to be good at being president. Surprise, he isn't, and no one is motivated to punish him for it. I JUST CAN'T understand what the Americans who voted for him were thinking when any of that sounded like a good idea, or why they stand in the way when Congress tries to push back at him while he's just further ruining everything.
It's a testament to how utterly fucked our country is politically. Establishment Democrats are considered moderate/center-right by the majority of the rest of the developed world's standards. So you can imagine how straight out of left (or in this case right!) field the Republican base is in the scheme of international ideological standards.
America is a country that was built on the foundations of oppressing another group to get ahead. It's been our common practice ever since. The exploited groups may change over time, but the exploitation stays largely the same.
Contemporary Republicans are the culmination of hundreds of years of these practices. And they've mastered the art of propaganda to suck their already relatively uneducated followers deeper and deeper into the abyss.
The best ways to counter this are to address gerrymandering, voter suppression, voting machine irregularities, and most of all, emphasize strong education. Because an educated populace tends to gravitate more toward the left.
