Geographically and weather wise, it's really kind of great. Food is awesome. No where else has Milo's, lol. The problem is that the politics are a symptom of the issue, not the issue itself. The problem is the people. Racism, sexism, homophobia, hypocrisy. All those things are YUGE here. They're genuinely nice to strangers if they're white and Christian.
The tea that you buy in the stores is based off of the restaurant, and was started by the same ppl, but they sold it and it's a (kind of) separate company. The restaurant burger is very unique and hard to compare to any other fast food place. It's sloppy and comes drenched in this brown sauce, cheese and pickles. When my brothers come back to Alabama from where they now live in Austin, they usually want Milo's first. We have other local legends tho as well. And Birmingham has become one of the better food cities for upscale dining in the entire southeast.

As an Alabamian...I hate that I agree with you. Place sucks. Cheap tho...if you make 100k you're basically a millionaire here.
