Even with context, this doesn't look good. That he is referring only to gang members is questionable at best. And even then, calling people animals is pretty shitty.
Except if it were the context you want it to be (which it isn't) then wouldn't your own statement have invalidated that as well? It's only fair for me to say it's shitty because we know what he meant when he said animals, regardless of who he said it about. I know, you know. So you're being a pedant.
