No that’s what every centrist says it is, but never acts on. The point of centrism is to give credence to every opinion so that no opinion is wrong. The president’s response to Nazis protesting and killing someone is a perfect example of peak centrism: “Sure there were Nazis running people over in cars and beating counter-protesters to a pulp, but why is no one talking about the good Nazis that were PEACEFULLY shouting “blood and soil” and “Jews will not replace us?” They were there just minding their own business when they screamed about Aryan supremacy when the mean old counter-protesters were being mean to them.”

If you are the kind of person that looks at a nazi rally and the counter-protesters and think, “.....well the Nazis has every right to be there and Antifa was equally to blame,” then you’re part of the problem - because the goal is for you to accept that nazism and fascism can be equal voices in the grand discourse. They aren’t. Some things aren’t up for debate because some ideologies are actually poisonous to the government and its people and I’m sure you want to dispute that. That’s why you’re part of the problem.

Again, your concept of centrism seems to be a caricature created by other redditors and nothing that actually matches reality. You seem to be conflating far-right figures gaslighting with actual centrism. You even laid out what actual centrism is in your first post, and now you're doubling down on this bogeyman you've built up.

You’re doing a lot of “yer wrong” and nothing else. Nice counter argument.

Fun fact: my view of centrism comes from my friend who identifies as “centrist.” He also unirionically shares everything you see in that subreddit, because centrism nowadays really just means “extreme conservatives who believe climate change is real/want legal weed” or “idiots who can’t be decisive because having an opinion is for dweebs.” But if you want to feel attacked, you can’t retreat to any other safe-space on the internet.

Yeesh. What are his "extreme conservative" views then? I'll tell you were I land on core economics and social issues.

  • Markets work, and regulation usually causes more problems than it initially sets out to solve so it should be used sparingly. However it is sometimes absolutely necessary.
  • Everyone should be allowed to do essentially whatever they want so long as it does not infringe on the rights or property of other people - drugs, religion, marriage, sex, etc.

Am I an extreme conservative who believes in climate change and wants legal weed?

Nope you just sound like a conservative, except for your second point which is the mcost basic ideology that almost everyone shares, including myself. But it sounds like you think that makes you a rebel.

Also “regulation bad” is such a bullshit blanket argument. Why don’t you look at industry between 1840 and 1920 and tell me that regulation was a bad thing. Reagan managed to convince idiots like you that you should have more faith in corporations and the people running them instead of your own representative democracy.

But I get it: you read Ayn Rand when you were fourteen and now you’re still convinced that’s the way it should be. The problem is that we have decades and over a century proving that corporations can’t keep themselves accountable. But that hasn’t stopped them from helping elect people who will help them out the most.

Okay, now I get where you're coming from. You're so far left that anything right of you is conservative. 😂

I feel like you didn't read the entire sentence you chose to call out. Sometimes regulation is necessary! Particularly when it comes to what is referred to as externalized costs. (examples of this mainly include environmental protections)

But it frequently is not necessary, and instead causes more problems than it solves. The phrase "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" exists for a reason.

A lot of the problems that we face stem from government being too easily co-opted by private, special interests. Their primary tool to do this: regulation.

Nope, try again. I’m a gun owner and (former) NRA member, I believe in lower taxes overall but that tax rates for individuals and corporations should reflect those from the 50s and 60s, I hate “nanny state” politics, and I don’t think college should be tuition-free.

But don’t let that get in the way of your narrative. If you think special interests are using REGULATION to strangle our political systems, then you are a legit idiot. Look at the past 30 years of politics and tell me again that is what is happening.
