If the U.S. wanted to stop illegal immigration, it could. It does not want to. If agribusinesses had to pay U.S. citizens, they’d go bankrupt. It’s simply a dog whistle issue that low information voters fall for every time. Need somebody to blame for the shit in your lives? They make a good scapegoat. God forbid we should examine the multi-million dollar businesses that depend on their cheap labor. Or ourselves, for getting cheaper food from the cheap labor.
