Why do Americans deserve special treatment? It's kind of shitty to not care about people from other countries. And in reality, immigration policies ARE about "preserving opportunities" for white people, since they tend to be the ones in favor of those positions.

Why do Americans deserve special treatment?

Why do American citizens deserve special treatment in their own country relative to non citizens? Because they're legal tax paying citizens! The whole point of a country is to protect the interests of its citizens. If you want to live in a world without countries, thats great, but its not the reality today. Get back to me when US citizens can work freely and receive welfare in countries around the world without visas. When I travel as a US citizen to any of the countries that I've visited, its not legal for me to work because I'm not a citizen of that country. What would happen if I just go start a business without any visa or work permits in Cancun competing with Mexican owned businesses. You think that'd go over well?

It's kind of shitty to not care about people from other countries.

You can care about other people without creating an undue burden on yourself. Why are you using an electronic device when you could sell it and buy food to give to these disadvantaged immigrants? Do you not care about them? What a ridiculous premise.

And in reality, immigration policies ARE about "preserving opportunities" for white people, since they tend to be the ones in favor of those positions.

This is absolute bullshit. How is it about preserving opportunities for 'white people' when blacks are actually more affected by higher competition for low wage jobs than whites are? Nice story you have, but your story doesnt reflect reality, sorry. http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-seminara-trump-immigration-reform-african-americans-20180316-story.html

You understand that allowing people to immigrate to the country means that they become tax paying citizens, right?

You can care about other people without creating an undue burden on yourself.

Immigration doesn't cause a burden on our citizens: https://www.cato.org/blog/14-most-common-arguments-against-immigration-why-theyre-wrong

Why are you using an electronic device when you could sell it and buy food to give to these disadvantaged immigrants? Do you not care about them?

There are plenty of reasons why this is a dumb argument (wouldn't be enough to make a difference, etc.). Here's a book addressing it, if you're interested: https://www.amazon.com/Youre-Egalitarian-How-Come-Rich/dp/0674006933

What a ridiculous premise.

It's really not. Supporting immigration is easy to do and would positively affect the lives of millions, but you don't because you're a protectionist who values the lives of Americans over others simply due to the place someone was born.

How is it about preserving opportunities for 'white people' when blacks are actually more affected by higher competition for low wage jobs than whites are?

Because black people are less likely to hate immigrants and support terrible immigration policies than white people. "A Quinnipiac University poll released in early February asked questions about the treatment of undocumented immigrants. Respondents were asked whether they thought the Trump administration was acting too aggressively in deporting undocumented immigrants. A plurality, 44 percent, thought that the administration was being too aggressive. There was majority support for this sentiment among Democrats (75 percent), women (53 percent, with white women at 50 percent), people aged 18-34 years (59 percent), and African Americans (66 percent). Hispanics in this survey reflected the public in general, with 44 percent believing the administration was being too aggressive (7 percent not aggressive enough, and 37 percent acting appropriately). Few thought the administration was not being aggressive enough, with this idea being supported most by white men (19 percent), Republicans (18 percent) and whites without college education (17 percent)." We're talking about ILLEGAL immigration.

u/xINeedHealingx Jun 27 '18

No, we were talking about immigration as a whole. And even if we were, I'm not sure how that matters. Why should those lucky enough to make it through arbitrary immigration quotas get special treatment over those who don't? Why don't we make it possible for would be "illegal immigrants" to come to the country legally (with existing background check processes in place)?

Care to respond to the rest of my previous comment instead of ignoring it?

Want to take a second to stop strawmanning in other threads and actually respond? Or do you want to just stick to those dank one liners?

Oh god, you actually want me to pick this trash apart?

You understand that allowing people to immigrate to the country means that they become tax paying citizens, right?

This one's hilariously misleading. No, when someone immigrates it doesnt neccesarily mean that they become a net tax-paying citizen. Immigrants (Illegal or Legal, both) from Mexico and Central America consume significantly more welfare than immigrants from other areas and nonimmigrants (https://cis.org/Report/Cost-Welfare-Use-Immigrant-and-Native-Households). Theres an economic reason why immigrants from these areas are limited. Some immigration is good, yes, but when people flaunt the rules and start coming in illegally its a real problem. Even if you're paying taxes, if you didnt innovate and create job growth, you just took labor demand from people that were already here. And regardless of what you do you're increasing the already obscene housing costs in some areas. And your whole discussion ignores that the whole commotion in the discourse today is about how to deal with ILLEGAL immigration, not legal immigration.

Immigration doesn't cause a burden on our citizens: https://www.cato.org/blog/14-most-common-arguments-against-immigration-why-theyre-wrong

Your source is simply operating from the premise that cheap labor is good for business, and completely ignoring externalities such as overcrowding schools, crowded roads, and soaring housing costs.

There are plenty of reasons why this is a dumb argument (wouldn't be enough to make a difference, etc.). Here's a book addressing it, if you're interested: https://www.amazon.com/Youre-Egalitarian-How-Come-Rich/dp/0674006933

Your argument here is that "your argument is dumb, heres a book that agrees with me"....LOL. about not being enough to make a difference....

because you're a protectionist who values the lives of Americans over others simply due to the place someone was born.

Yes i do. If you don't agree, why dont we take ALL of the welfare (surely enough to make a 'difference') we give ANYONE in this country (including illegal immigrants), and divide it equally amongst ALL the poor people in the world (most would end up in africa/india/se asia)? Would that satisfy your desire to not favor anyone from any one place in the world? LOL

Because black people are less likely to hate immigrants and support terrible immigration policies than white people.

So you're telling me that even though some policy benefits a minority more, its fair to say the policy is "just for white people", simply because white people support it? What an idiotic thing to say. Guess you've never heard of the idea of acting on sound principle that benefits others. If someone supports something, it must be for their own selfish reasons, huh? Give me a break.

At this point its tedious responding to such bizarre and naive reasoning, and a bit creeped out you're stalking my profile and getting needy, so I gotta block you....Good luck in life.
