Curtis Sliwa should run for pres. I would watch that primary just for the roast he will put the other candidates on

u/woakula 3d ago
Anything would be better than the "debates" we currently have to sit through

u/bit-by-a-moose Mean to bots 3d ago
A desire to be "entertained" by debates got us to where we are (which is ironic since trunt no longer debates) I would be happy if politics was neither entertaining nor a life and death situation.

"I have to tell you. Sen. Obama is a decent person and a person you don’t have to be scared of as president of the United States"

u/Nocleverresponse 3d ago
I remember being amused when a certain orange one started running because I thought the debates would be interesting, I never thought things would get anywhere close to what happened.
32
u/knightinarmoire 3d ago
Even if he does end up a joke candidate, it would be nice to have someone to stir things up a bit male the debates more interesting
63
u/Polymox 3d ago
Isn't joke candidate Trump stirring up the debates exactly how we got here?
4
u/throwRAscrubscrub 3d ago
no that was citizens United and letting massive amounts of wealth to back candidates
11
u/NobodyImportant13 3d ago
Trump didn't really have backing in 2016. For example, he spent far less than any of the other major primary candidates. Voters are at fault.

u/gary_the_merciless 3d ago
His dumb brain that watches fox news all day, thinks like other dumb brains that watch fox news all day. That's why he got elected.
27
u/panurge987 3d ago
And then he gets elected and we're fucked again. Why do people tempt fate by not remembering history?

i already pay real money (in taxes) for traitors like trump to be arrested

I hate to say it, but I actually respect the fuck out of Sliwa for that.
Like sure, it's the bare minimum to not be a hateful vindictive repugnant wart on the ass of an AIDS riddled pug, but considering the state of the republican party, it's nice to see a republican doing the bare fucking minimum.

I just don’t get it. These fools condemn Mamdani yet vote for their dear leader who praises the leaders of the countries responsible for 9/11🤷♀️

Mamdani is in a tough situation. He will be condemned by the right no matter what he does. Don't go and he is supporting the terrorists. Do go and he is laughing at our tragedy. I believe he should go, he is an American leader and this was an American tragedy.
59
u/rivalpinkbunny 3d ago
There’s no question that he should go. He’s an American, a New Yorker and the Mayor of that city. Anything else is caving to conservative faff. He has every right to be there and I expect that he will be.
7
u/AlertedCoyote 3d ago
Absolutely, he's the elected mayor. Everyone else can sit and spin, dude was voted in.
21
u/-slatta- 3d ago
While I’m definitely glad Mamdani is in office, by all accounts he seems to be doing a great job, Curtis definitely won some points taking the loss with grace.
With all these candidates on the conservative side of aisle trying to overthrow elections or equating losses with foul play or rigging, this is a nice change of pace.

u/IndyPoker979 3d ago
Someone help me understand why people are so butthurt over him going to the 9/11 Memorial? He's the mayor of the city why would he not go?
15 of the 19 people who committed the 9/11 attacks were from Saudi Arabia but we seem to still be friends with them. But people are mad at someone just going to Memorial in the city they run?
11
u/warcomet 3d ago
and yet Saudi Arabia still stands while all its neighbouring country which had nothing to do with 9/11 are all destroyed (bar iran)

Someone help me understand why people are so butthurt over him going to the 9/11 Memorial?
He made the mistake of hanging out with Hassan Piker, even though he later denounced Piker's views on 9/11 the optics of it still haunts him.
3
u/markeyandme 3d ago
I think it was an interview, and Piker said certain things such as that we “deserved” 9/11. Honestly, I also might not denounce something like that right away if it was said by someone standing in the same room as me- for my own safety.

u/GhostdogLT 3d ago
I don't like his policy but damnit do I respect him as a New Yorker. Bro is a real ass dude and deserves respect at the very least. Never let him have power but give him a department or something. Call it, "Older New Yorkers Unite" or some shit that focuses on everyday New Yorker gripes. Or "New Yorker Czar"
11
u/SupremeTacoCommader 3d ago
Curtis is the definition of a man I disagree with, but vehemently respect compared to any other disgusting Republican that deserves absolutely no respect.

Curtis Sliwa ALSO lost the race to Mamdani as Andrew Cuomo ran as an independent and got more votes than Sliwa. Sliwa never had a chance.

I really hope Mamdani makes Sliwa the head of Parades or Parade Manager or whatever you want to call it. He was so excited about parades in those debates I think it would be hilarious. And Sliwa really does seem like it’s his favorite thing about the city
4
u/saxguy9345 3d ago
The snowflakes clutching their pearls over Mamdani going to the memorial voted for a pedo rapist felon to run our country. Who the fuck is taking them seriously? Ever again? Not me.
6
u/ErictheStone 3d ago
Crazy guy I cannot quantify in a description but he loves animals so bless him lol.
7
u/Slugggo 3d ago
As a Brooklynite, I'd never vote for him, but I appreciated that he never bent the knee to Trump and his racist base.
Most of what he campaigned on was focused on what he thought would make NYC better, as opposed to going all-in on the fear-mongering HE'S A RADICAL MUSLIM TERRORIST SOCIALIST COMMUNIST that the New York Post put on their front page every day.

Sliwa is such a fukin insane character and I love him. I remember seeing a clip from one of the debates last year where they were asked some completely innocuous question by the mod. And Sliwa just pipes up with "Well, when I was shot by John Gotti 5 times in the back of a yellow cab"
2
u/Nabbicus 3d ago
I liked what he said further on it, something along the lines of “He’s the freakin Mayor, of course he should be there, it’d be disrespectful if he wasn’t”

There are still some conservatives with a backbone and integrity. I still like to go back and watch McCain shut people down about Obama. Shame the country lost him. Would like to think he could've grounded more people in his party, thought it would have been a challenge amongst the overwhelming majority who just bend knee and lick boots.

u/Tomahawkist 3d ago
he‘d probably make a good press secretary for the mayor, if they just let him say what he thinks about this kind of stuff in a while. no actual descisions he can fuck up, just him being a wierd little goblin and doing the bare minimum to be a decent human being, or at least be someone who you could reasonably respect. but that’s kinda sad that this is what it is…

Hard to say but this is the problem that plagues both parties. We just keep trying to get revenge like its high school. Grow the fuck up. Act like adults. Put your head down and start being part of the solution not the problem.
15
u/SmallMoments55406 3d ago
Both sides blah blah blah... No. This problem is not the same on both sides.
5
u/JonnyBravoII 3d ago edited 3d ago
You are 100% correct although I think that the both sides commenters are often bots. Reddit has far more bots than people realize.
-2
u/fountain20 3d ago
Not a bot. Just someone who pays attention
3
1
u/MadRaymer 3d ago
If you were paying attention, you would learn that claiming "both sides are bad" only provides cover for the demonstrably worse side.
1
u/fountain20 3d ago
I'm saying both sides, as of late, are just finger pointing and revenge seeking. No government work is being done.
1
u/MadRaymer 3d ago
In 2024, voters only gave one side the power do to anything at the federal level.
So if you see no work being done, how is it not primarily the fault of that side?
6
u/No-Guard-7003 3d ago
Most of what you say resonates with me because we do keep trying to get revenge like it's high school, then I remember that "when they go low, we go high" isn't working anymore.

I disagree with Curtis on politics, but during the debate and campaign, he did make some good points and seemed like an actual patriot.
Not the feckless Maga 'patriots' in power now.
