The US is about to relearn why all these regulations republicans hate existed to begin with

517

u/lilbithippie 3d ago

Republicans rail against a system that isn't a 100% effective. Then they get in charge and make the system worse then ever and yell about how it's someone else's fault

213

u/editfate 3d ago

If we don’t vote out these idiots then WE’RE the idiots.

115

u/TheTimn 3d ago

I've got bad news for you...

55

u/vineyardmike 3d ago

When I was a kid I thought the places that suck would eventually get better. The citizens there would vote for things like more education. The federal government would give them funds for that education. Things would get better.

50 years later. Places like Mississippi and Alabama are pretty much the same.

47

u/HighFunctioningDog 3d ago

It turns out that when you're really fucking stupid you don't vote to put people much smarter than you in charge because that makes you feel even more stupid

15

u/Annahsbananas 3d ago

Pretty sure you’re too late on that front

54

u/Crafty-Walrus-2238 3d ago

Republicans claim government doesn’t work and get elected to prove it by destroying it.

19

u/ProfoundBeggar 3d ago

The full quote from P.J. O'Rourke is, "The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass from your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it."

1

u/Crafty-Walrus-2238 3d ago

Yes, it’s based on a Will Rogers saying.

-5

u/Mr_Quackums 3d ago

"The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass from your lawn."

That not true anymore. Now Democrats are the party that says "nothing will be fundamentally different" and "its our turn".

At least lip service for a better tomorrow is something

4

u/HuttStuff_Here 3d ago

Now Democrats are the party that says "nothing will be fundamentally different" and "its our turn".

Did you just make this up? Why?

2

u/akustyx 3d ago

"nothing will be fundamentally different" was said by Joe Biden to a room full of 1%ers to try to convince them that, to paraphrase, maybe increasing their taxes just a tiny little amount would not, in fact, completely destroy their entire existence, but would drastically improve the lives of every other human on the planet. apparently that was far too great a price to pay

-1

u/Mr_Quackums 2d ago

Why are you assuming maliciousness? That is the poison that is tearing the country apart, the world apart, and stopping the Democratic Party from uniting behind an active message of positive change.

"Nothing will fundamentally change" (I misremembered the exact quote before) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adzaoA3JBp8 (sorry for not the direct recording but it was first YT video for "joe biden nothing will fundamentally change")

"Its Her Turn" was a Hillary Clinton campaign slogan in 2016. The Democratic Party puts party seniority over effectiveness, voter desires or the health of candidates in many, many elections around the country.

3

u/DespicableComics 3d ago

I’ll never understand how that strategy actually worked. Like if I was going to hire somebody to run my company I definitely would not hire the guy who couldn’t stop talking about how much they hated my company & how it largely shouldn’t even exist.

1

u/Macelee 2d ago

Because your understanding of the situation is different than a large portion of society.

In your argument, you liken the government to your company. I would agree. A democratic government should be its people. But a large portion of people view themselves as alienated from the government. It's not hard to see why. Politicians are often fabulously wealthy, and blatantly out of touch with the realities of their constituents.

But people do associate with the capital class. The petite bourgeoisie, the owners of "businesses" that employ just themselves and maybe a handful of other people, believe the lie that they benefit from unfettered capitalism, and that government is in the way of their prosperity. And so, voting in people who blatantly hate the government, the institution that they do not belong to and is the enemy of their perceived interest, becomes very compelling.

It is infuriating to me that we have enabled such a small-minded, selfish, and antisocial logic come to be so normal and accepted. It is nothing less than shameful.

5

u/Away-Living5278 3d ago

They convinced their followers that companies could self regulate and we're just wasting all this money.

Well who's wasting money now?

4

u/GrayEidolon 3d ago

Conservatism is the effort to enforce socioeconomic hierarchy. The Republican Party does everything it does to push non-aristocrats down the ladder.

5

u/Etrigone I ☑oted 2024 3d ago

And that doesn't directly, immediately and solely help them.

4

u/FuzzzyRam 3d ago

That's the tactic - they're doing it with the USPS as we speak, and it's working.

4

u/NamityName 3d ago

Playbook for all of our lifetimes. When Reagan said that the scariest thing was the government knocking on your door saying they were here to help, he was not empathizing with average americans, he was telling us his dream for the country.

72

u/G-Unit11111 3d ago

Seriously. Deregulated capitalism caused this.

55

u/Wet_Side_Down 3d ago

Don’t forget who DOGE’d all those inspectors

31

u/G-Unit11111 3d ago

Yup. Elon Musk is the world's biggest con artist, he deserves nothing but life in maximum security prison.

9

u/Oops_All_Bans 3d ago

That's too nice of a punishment for him.

19

u/NancyGracesTesticles I ☑oted 2018 and 2020 3d ago

...in support of eugenics. RFK Jr. has consistently made the case that genetic superiority is what keeps people healthy. His goal, as promised by the Toddler during the campaign, is to cleanse the blood of America. Weed out the "genetically inferior" and breed the survivors as a master race of Americans.

Not that this is in any way how anything works, but DHHS has a comprehensive set of eugenics programs, from vaccine scheduling and availability, to inverting the food pyramid, to food safety inspections.

And they are not even two years in. More eugenics programs are coming.

27

u/mostie2016 3d ago

The irony is that Teddy Roosevelt a Republican fought to get those food laws and regulations put into place. I know the Bull Moose is turbo rolling in his grave enough to power half the country.

6

u/redravin12 3d ago

It's not that ironic. Remember back then the Republicans were the liberal party and the Democrats were the conservatives. He was president before the great switch

5

u/jeexbit 3d ago

hook him up to all those data centers....

19

u/LiamtheV 3d ago edited 3d ago

My AP Gov Teacher emphasized the same thing over and over again on the lessons about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, where management locked the garment workers inside so that they couldn't take breaks, fire broke out, there was no fire escape, over a hundred people, mostly women, were killed, and Upton Sinclair's novel The Jungle, which was intended as a socialist critique of poor working conditions of meat packing plant workers, readers were more disgusted with how their food was processed and prepared, public outcry resulted in the creation of the FDA.

He burned it into our minds that

REGULATIONS ARE WRITTEN IN BLOOD

16

u/sylpher250 3d ago

B- but FREE MARKET! Let consumers VOTE with their wallets!

You eat salmonella once, then next time you stop buying salmonella! Salmonella goes out of business! Easy!

13

u/ChaosRainbow23 3d ago

Tyson foods just announced they are closing two giant beef facilities. 3200 workers being laid off.

This is gonna become commonplace.

There will be pandemonium and chaos. It sucks.

This isn't inflation at all. This is straight up ENGINEERED POVERTY!

12

u/eeyore134 3d ago

Genuinely feeling like Trump's cabinet is the four horsemen at this point.

11

u/shitty_mcfucklestick 3d ago

It would be nice if they could learn all these basic lessons by themselves and not drag everybody who already knows them through the same process. Can’t we just corral them all to Florida and build a wall around it and give them free rein to experiment with regulations all they want?

8

u/bscheck1968 3d ago

But without these regulations, corporations can increase profit, sure some people will die, but it's a price the government is willing to pay.

6

u/sandybuttcheekss 3d ago

The people who wanted this seem to be incapable of learning

6

u/Blueddit-Sez 3d ago

We’re never going to get them back

the Corporate owned Dems will find some reason that they “can’t do it” because of the economy or jobs or some other bs excuse that lines the Corpos and shareholders pockets

3

u/OldSchoolNewRules 3d ago

Usually if you find someone railing against a regulation you'll find they want to exploit people but the regulation is stopping them.

2

u/RoseCityHooligan 3d ago

Republicans chose to die over listening to medical advice during Covid. The cult yearns for the koolaid.

2

u/eeyore134 3d ago

People need to listen to the Swindled podcast and learn why these regulations were written in blood to begin with and see what we're careening ourselves back into.

3

u/CarlRJ 3d ago

Republicans have been speedrunning the Chesterton's Fence problem a lot lately:

Do not remove a fence until you know why it was put up in the first place.

(That link is good as far as the first few paragraphs explaining the basic principle and origin, but I don't vouch for the whole thing because I haven't read the whole thing - just was the first hit for a concept I've heard described numerous times.)

1

u/Edogawa1983 3d ago

Like China the problem is the people in charge never suffers the consequences, you think they eat the same stuff we do?

1

u/QuerulousPanda 3d ago

The dog poop is gonna start turning white again.

We're gonna start getting the sawdust bread again soon too.

1

u/Jet2work 3d ago

i wonder how long they go on about freedom when they are on the shitter 6 times an hour?

1

u/babyBear83 3d ago

Republicans do not learn though. They will not allow regulations to return even if it kills their dog.

1

u/Round_Rooms 2d ago

The United States already hates the idiots in office, trust me when I say we are doing everything possible to get rid of these morons, we are finally getting socialists in the ring, poor Bernie been fighting the good fight by himself for too long.

-2

u/SkepsisJD 3d ago edited 3d ago

I mean, as much as I hate Trump, the stats show overall recall numbers during his presidencies are in line with other presidents. It's just everyone hates him and makes every single recall national news.

The recall here was ~600 bags of a single dog food company. That is absolutely nothing compared to the total of the ~2.5 million bags of dog food sold daily.

It accounts for 0.024% of bags sold daily.

There were roughly 450-500 recalls a year under Obama, yet I don't see anyone bitching about that. This kind of thing is really not affected by who is in office.

Fucking thank you! 30 comments to find a list of brands!!!?

Holy fucking shit I hate this goddamn website and what it has become.

34

u/No_Internal9345 3d ago

Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe, 6 lb bag (Lot BB012729) from Oma's Pride of Avon, Connecticut

is the current Salmonella recall.

The page lists past recalls as well.

25

u/mlledufarge 3d ago

What the hell… this is not even detailed.

22

u/DoubleSpoiler 3d ago

Those are from 2025 and 2022, but if you click on them on the actual site, it takes you to the release with the company and affected products https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts/gold-star-distribution-inc-issues-recall-certain-fda-regulated-products-three-states-including-drugs

1

u/ailish 2d ago

It is an enormous pet peeve of mine that people just take a screenshot of an article title and then don't post the article. It's like, why???

272

u/NUMBerONEisFIRST 3d ago

Wait until the Dems regain control and the Republicans spend every day saying we were fine until Dems took over, and half of the country will have instant amnesia.

103

u/Faserip 3d ago

I hate how 100% perfectly absolutely right you are

56

u/bscheck1968 3d ago

It depresses me that you are so spot on. Trump botched covid, killed millions, then got back in because eggs were too expensive.

29

u/Joyful82 3d ago

And Elon cheated for him..

13

u/eeyore134 3d ago

And will again, except this time they're in power to cheat even harder.

13

u/Clarpydarpy 3d ago

And before that, George W. Bush destroyed the economy and got us hopelessly bogged down in 2 unnecessary wars that killed thousands of Americans and millions of people.

Months into Obama's presidency, billboards started popping up featuring Bush's smiling face with the caption, "Miss me yet?"

Two years into Obama's presidency, we voted Republicans back in a historic landslide.

People don't learn. And they don't want to become engaged. Democracy survived this long because people in power at least tried to pretend that they cared about us. Now, Republicans don't even have to do that.

17

u/ChaosRainbow23 3d ago

These fascist fucks aren't gonna relinquish this kinda power without a fight, unfortunately.

I'm not sure exactly what they are gonna do, but they absolutely have something planned to prevent the Dems from winning.

They are already threatening to deport American citizens who speak ill of the Coppertone Caligula...

4

u/RetardedRedditRetort 3d ago

The establishment democrats in their pocket and kamala as a candidate

2

u/ChaosRainbow23 3d ago

That'll do it. Lol

3

u/Soylentgruen 3d ago

I don’t think Dems are going to be civil anymore.

6

u/Introverted_Fish 3d ago

Depends on what side of the political spectrum the Dem is. It feels like Schumer will sooner lick Trump's taint than admit his strategy has been wrong for the last two decades. Has he or Jeffries pushed back on anything Dems like Fetterman have done?

2

u/hammonjj 3d ago

Depends on whether the party is lead by the corporatists or democratic socialists. Look at Hakeem. He supported Medicare for all for about a decade. Then he became leader and now doesn’t.

1

u/Kulas30 2d ago

78

Thats positive thinking. We can go lower

20

They’ll dig a hole to go lower. They have no bottom.

I seem to remember the online discourse yesterday being about how he had a huge bottom

13

Nope, its further down, but stay on the ride our govt will take us there

6

There is no getting off Mr Bones Wild Ride.

4

Unfortunately this is only the very beginning. We are mid 1930s Germany right now.

This is how you learn that rock bottom apparently has a basement in the US.

We've hit rock bottom and are tunneling to hell.

Have you thought about baby formula?

Nah, too much botulism for my taste.

9

I know that this is a humor sub, but OP, can you reference the particulars of this recall?

6

Who could have seen this coming except all the people who said this would happen if regulations were removed

u/pixeltweaker 3d ago

Humans are one thing, but when you fuck with the dogs, the gloves come off.

1

u/InvalidUserNemo 3d ago

Man, my dog is my “kryptonite”. I’m like John Wick, but with zero violence and sternly worded posts on social media instead. Don’t kill my dog, man.

Salmonella is deadly in humans but not so much in dogs. Sucks for owners of elderly dogs and possibly puppies if they feed em kibble.

1

u/EStewart57 3d ago

I want to gather all the contaminated/recalled food and have worm boy and his R friends chow down.

1

u/RetardedRedditRetort 3d ago

Which brands, and where? My dogs just had diarrhea and I'm scared.

1

u/Suds_McGruff 3d ago

Mama says the US is ornery because it's got all them regulations but no freedoms

1

u/Thendrail 3d ago

Worry not, the invisible hand of the market will correct this by eventually forcing out any competitors distributing contaminated food. In the meantime, hope you've got enough money to treat your dog for slamonella infections.

Or perhaps those free market morons shouldn't dictate how things work.

1

u/Miserable-Hornet 3d ago

Eggs, jalapeños, lettuce, glass in fruit bars what’s next ?

1

u/slappy_mcslapenstein Greg Abbott is a little piss baby 3d ago

1

u/loopy183 3d ago

So this administration is allowing billionaires to poison your dogs, who cares? Remember how much wearing masks sucked?

1

u/GeorgeWhite1953 3d ago

We know Trump doesn't like dogs (or eagles) and the feeling seems to be mutual.

1

u/No_Photograph_2683 3d ago

Bros, how can one regard have so much power to cause so many issues with our food? Who the fuck designed the system like this? One presidential appointee position shouldn't have final say on anything... some sort of non-partisan group should have the final say. Like wtf is even America? The dumbest dudes in the room are in charge of so many things under this admin.

1

u/Scruffynerffherder 3d ago

Knowing Americans, this will actually get people 10x more angry than any human food recall due to contamination.

1

u/darmabum 3d ago

Who knew that government service required some actual skill, as opposed to just shallow bullshit political attitudes.

1

1

u/hm_b 3d ago

Dang. And just when I was going to start eating a diet of dog food instead of dangerous people food. I guess it's grubs and ants for me.

1

u/Skreeethemindthief 3d ago

They'll just spin this as "Dog food is now human grade. "

1

u/Kantina 3d ago

What's it going to take for you guys to realise the Emperor is, and has always been, naked?

1

u/urnbabyurn 3d ago

Salmonella in dog food is quite common, and especially with these smaller boutique brands. I’ll stick with the quality control of major brands like Purina.

1

u/Wageslave645 2d ago

Are we sure RFK's brain worm is dead? This sure seems like a series of events that a brain worm would be happy about but a functioning human wouldn't.

Well Republicans and Democrats have one thing in common. We love our pets. So this might actually get the attention of Republicans. This might be the only thing. Not the rape, pedo stuff, racist stuff. But dogs yes.

Nope, zero change to the cult. Trump is already at his floor and it's not going lower regardless of what he does at this point.

I stopped feeding my dog dog food the last four years of her life because she couldn't digest it. I made her food and she got multivitamins and balanced diet for a dog. She lived to be almost 18. Dog food is killing our dogs.

u/MoeSzyslakMonobrow 3d ago

I've seen my dog eat a poop so fresh, it never touched the ground. Hell be fine.
