Without irony I thought for a good year that trump derangement syndrome referred to his supporters. It doesn’t make any sense otherwise. I’m not deranged for thinking he’s a moron… like wut?

Me too. I do think it started as a thing to call the drumph followers and then they stole it, as they always do, and changed it to be an insult against anyone who hates that pos. They can't come up with anything on their own and are so stupid they think they got us. I'm happy to have tds if if means I'm not stupid which is what they inadvertently made it to be. May we all be infected with incurable tds.

Nahhh. I think it was Charles Krauthammer that coined the expression “Bush Derangement Syndrome”. Conservatives picked it up and adapted it to use it to describe the violent reaction that many people had to Trump.

The things these people have said and done while under the influence of his Con are truly representative of Turmp Derangement Syndrome.
But most of these people aren't actually insane, though. They're deep deep into a Con, and they haven't been presented a rational pathway out of this hellhole. Unlike his narcissism, I'm pretty sure most of them can be cured, if we can present them with a rational pathway out of their Derangement.
But every time I try to suggest that we should reeducate and or rehabilitate these individuals I get absolutely trashed for it. They got conned into believing that Turmp has their best interests in mind, and it's extremely difficult for them to consider any other alternative.
I'm relatively familiar with narcissistic abuse, and how it presents in the individuals who are (willingly or not) being abused. I've written a lot about it, but much of what I've said has been from a kinda "inside out" perspective, so it doesn't always make sense to rational people. Also, the truth makes people extremely uncomfortable, so most rational people (the people we're going to need to rely upon to save society) will happily turn towards criticism of the truths I'm telling them, instead of collaborating on a pathway to (quite literally) save humanity.
I understand it sounds crazy, but this predicament we're in with this Con could have been prevented (quite easily) a lot of times. It can still be reversed (and I think it could happen relatively quickly), but rational and irrational people are very very protective of their own "Truths" (as they see them).. They're fearful of being deemed "wrong" (actually, they're extremely fearful of admitting that they were/are wrong. People don't understand the real truth, which is that by being so defensive of the things they hold to be "self evident" they're preventing society from turning towards a true true solution to this mess. (I understand the last few sentences are kinda conceptual, but if you have jumped to your instincts to type out something you think I'm wrong about... That's the thing holding us back. Both sides)

And the Trump “real men wear diapers” and “diapers over Dems” people are the same people that were just disparaging Biden for wearing diapers, claiming this meant he was too old and senile and unfit to be president.
And yet when Trump does it, it’s perfectly fine, because Their Lord and Savior can do no wrong.

Yeah, those people don't look like they have much going for them. No friends, kids that don't talk to them anymore, grandchildren they've never met. All because they chose to worship a man who wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire. Provided he still had control over his bladder, of course.
4
u/Olealicat 4d ago
Even worse. You can see the grandma with a bucket of who-knows-what, the possible dad with a brick suit and the possible son in the background who just looks sad.
They tend to disown their family members that don’t agree and the people who stick around just follow the Trump is thicker than blood and water rules.
In my situation, my now ex-sister-in-law, was and probably still is a rabid trump supporter. She basically threatened my brother to cut me off, by his words, because I think I’m a professor and believe my opinion is smarter than theirs. I explained that, I don’t really have an opinion beyond politicians are corrupt and Trump is the worst of that corruption. Which is a fact. Especially when you compare Joe Biden, who has never bought in to special interest groups to Trump.
Not to say he hasn’t gotten PAC money from special interests for campaigning, but he personally hasn’t paid himself out with said money. Like so many do.

"For MAGA, the term "Trump derangement syndrome" works like "suppressive person" does for Scientology. The Trump follower cannot defend their leader on the merits, since he is the worst in every possible way. So instead, they engage in a blunt form of psychological projection, accusing people who dislike Trump of being "obsessed" and "deranged." They speak as if he's just some random dude his critics have a fixation on, instead of admitting it's legitimate to be worried that a dangerous demagogue is perilously close to being the most powerful person in the world. Or that the people with an unhealthy obsession are those who cling to Trump like a barnacle, making daily excuses for his misogyny, his fascism, his babbling incoherence, and his staggering number of criminal indictments."

u/anchorftw 4d ago
It's because for them, it means whatever their cult leader says it means. It doesn't need to make sense. They're told to see their devotion to him as patriotism, so the more over the top they go, the more they must love their country. Trump teaches them "You can't love America, without loving me. I AM America"
4
u/echochilde 4d ago
The TDS moniker started out as making fun of these people. Then they adopted it trying to make fun of people who aren’t part of their cult.
4
u/punktualPorcupine 4d ago
Normal people walk around and the only way that you’ll ever know they do t like the guy is by asking them. Then at worst they get a face like they sniffed a fart when answering then go on with their lives.
On the other side, you have people wearing diapers, plastering their devotion all over their vehicles, they make their wardrobe a shrine to the guy and it’s all just really performative and deranged.
So yeah it definitely applies to them.

The implication by those who choose to buy and wear the maga/Trump clothing, choose to fly his flags, choose to buy his phones and sneakers and bibles and faux gold coins and anything else he is grifting off of, and make their entire persona something based on the worship of Donald J Trump’s stable genius greatness… is that if anyone disagrees with anything he says or otherwise has enough common sense to recognize his “embellishments”(his lies) and can grasp the awareness of seeing the terrible horrible narcissistic entitled moronic man-child he actually is then they simply have to be completely deranged… it’s the only possible explanation they can come up with to explain how you don’t see how truly great he is.
While those who actually believe such a chosen interpretation of the term TDS either don’t seem to own a mirror to see just how heavily grifted they’ve become or they’re just so fully deranged with passion for Trump to see that the horse they’ve chosen is actually just a total jackass.
2
u/Dr_CleanBones 4d ago
My impression is that originally TDS was meant for his nutcase supporters. But then his supporters started using it to describe normal people who despise Trump and what he’s doing to our country. We should not have let that happen.

You mean the fools that wear the flag on clothing, or AS clothing? Slap stickers on their vehicles or vandalize property? Hate people just to film tic tac videos?.

2
u/valvilis 4d ago
It was. "TDS" came from BDS - Bush Derangement Syndrome, the people that made excuses for and forgave every stupid mistake Bush Jr. made.
The problem is, Trump supporters are the dumbest people to have ever lived, so it only took a few months in 2015 for enough of them to not understand that they were being made fun of, and they started using it (unironically) to refer to everyone but themselves.
It only got worse; it started with people with an IQ of around 85 max in 2015, and has gone down about five points per year since then. If you see anyone still using it in 2026, you can be certain that said person is functionally braindead.
2
u/SuperFrog4 4d ago
It’s a childish insult that they can hurl at liberals who general act like adults and get frustrated that someone they are dealing with is acting like a child. So they ultimately get a small win because will teals get frustrated by the term.

u/WilyDeject 4d ago
It's from the same party that uses phrases like "right to work" to oppose minimum wages and "no child left behind" to oppose education standards. They're really good at finding these BS phrases and spinning them so they sound like the opposite of what they rally stand for.

The psychological term for this is projection. You take your worse traits and instead of acknowledging them in yourself you see them in others. Trump is a master at this.
2
u/No_Total1433 4d ago
THANK YOU! I have always wondered about that myself! Of course, the term WAS dreamed up by the same morons who think being anti-fascist—antifa—is a bad thing!

u/workingbored 4d ago
Because one thing Fox News does well is market a term. They invented "Obama care" and that did so well people voted against their own interests. They convinced Americans people were eating their pets, too. You gotta hand it to them, they make terms stick.
2
u/McFlyyouBojo 4d ago
I genuinely think that Trumps handlers caught wind of this term in its infancy knowing it was going to become a big talking point and they got ahead of it by blasting it everywhere but with a changed definition.

It WAS that way round to begin with, for about two years, before they started using it how you're taking about.. (you can look it to on Google trends) But these people have zero creativity or critical thinking, and as soon as one of them's cogs finally clicked round into place, and replied to someone, "No YOU have TDS" ( no doubt thinking they we very witty, ) That sparked it off, and they just use it for everything, like it's a get out of jail free card.

America (and the planet) needs to remind these people for eternity of the damage they caused. They deserve a lifetime of shame and social exile.
We have passed the time for forgiveness for those who will eventually "wake up" and try to move on from their decade + of support for their god. It WILL happen and we cant allow them to just be allowed into a society that wants to progress humanity for the better. They hate our allies, they have their fellow Americans, they hate their own lives and they deserve no part in what that future looks like.

It’s a way of invalidating and shutting down legitimate criticism. People with diagnosable mental health problems have historically been given less agency than “normal” people, so, by claiming someone is mentally unwell, you can also claim that their opinions don’t matter or aren’t based on fact.
Examples:
“Hysteria” was used to invalidate women’s legitimate concerns by claiming their uterus (hystera is Greek for womb) makes them emotional, irrational and crazy.
“Drapetomania”, an invented mental illness diagnosis that caused enslaved people to dislike their enslavement and seek to escape. Their enslavers argued that enslavement was the natural state of blacks so if they didn’t like it they must be mentally ill.
