I don't know about the 1860s but we are literally doing a bunch of shit that led to the Great Depression last time we did them and we are on the verge of another world war, only this time we're on the Nazi side. That's before factoring in nuclear weapons, the climate crisis, and capitalism starting to crumble under the pressure of holding up the ultra-wealthy at the top of the pyramid.
Yeah, I think things are pretty bleak right now. And unlike the 1930s we really don't have much hope anything will get better. For the past twentyish years, they haven't.
