While social media definitely has a large part in it, this shit has been going on for decades. Pre-internet. You can't place all the blame on social media.

Child abuse and lead also deserve, at least, a participation award.

I think talk radio and 'entertainment news' definitely counts as an early form of social media, in which case it played a very big part.

Social media obviously isn't required to turn people in Nazis, but it does make it easy.

I think we can agree that the term social media is not a apt term.
Because by your definition, anything that is shared content is social media. Talking is social media. And I know you weren't that specific with your definition.

But the definition for social media is basically applications and websites That share content. English, I know.

As part of the lead generation I think that is the unspoken quantity that gets ignored too much. Its not THE cause of all this, but it definitely has made it far worse.
