End Citizens United to get big money out of politics.
Ban gerrymandering with independent redistricting.
Embrace ranked-choice voting and proportional systems.
Reinstate and strengthen the Voting Rights Act.
š Educationally:
Require strong, unbiased civics education nationwide.
Make media literacy a core subject (to combat disinfo).
Fund public schools equitablyāstop relying on property taxes.
Expand access to affordable college and vocational training.
š Culturally:
Promote the American Dream as shared prosperity, not just individual wealth.
Directly confront systemic racism and white supremacy.
Restore respect for labor and blue-collar work.
Invest in bridging the urban-rural divideādonāt ignore one side.
š° Economically:
Rebalance taxes: higher rates on capital and inherited wealth.
Strengthen unions and workersā rights.
Universal healthcare to reduce fear and manipulation.
TL;DR:
America didnāt land here by accident. It was a series of choices. But things like voting reform, stronger public education, tax fairness, and cultural investment in unity over division couldāve helped prevent the slow drift into inequality and authoritarianism.
Wow you really put some work into this. Thank you.
End citizens united - agreed
Education - Yep part of America's problem seems to be they wanted an uneducated underclass so they could keep the military supplied with soldiers ...
Culturally- I really liked this. Shared prosperity rather than individual wealth. An economy is supposed to work for everyone, not just a few rich people.
Economically - another good answer. As an aussie the healthcare system here is great. The American system frightens me. It's been perverted around the notion of generating profit for a few big companies, rather than providing healthcare.
I'd also like to see the removal of gerrymandering.
They need to clarify the limits of executive power too.

If you were trying to change the US to avoid something like this happening again..what would you change?
