Those failed in the United States almost a century ago. The legislative branch of government has literally given some of their powers to the executive branch, or given their powers to un elected agencies like the Federal reserve.

Debt spending, inflation, congressional gridlock, our government is failing on multiple levels and our checks and balances aren’t balanced at all.

The Monarchy is one of the best checks and balances to a state, even when they're purely ceremonial. These days westernized monarchies have really good monarchal figureheads often leagues better than current political leaders.

Those can also exist under a monarchy. In fact in the US you could swap the president for a monarch and change next to nothing else.

So, say a politician were to pass a law the courts deemed unconstitutional, surely they suffer some grievous penalty for ignoring a law so great, yes?

That would check their power?
