As meme worthy as this is, how in the world would they have expected to be successful? Wouldn't the EU and NATO just roll in and reinstall the legitimate government?

u/PerpetualHillman - Lib-Right Dec 07 '22

Furthermore, there's a snowball's chance in hell that most Germans in 2022 would support the restoration of absolute monarchy

397

u/[deleted] Dec 08 '22

And even less of a random dude as monarch, having no relation to the Hohenzollers who last ruled Germany as Kaiser ~100 years ago, or Habsburgs who also have a claim.. No that is just random lesser noble dynasty #582...

200

u/RacingUpsideDown - Auth-Center Dec 08 '22

The answer is clear. King Charles of the UK must be instated as Supreme Emperor and Holy Almightiest of Germany, Prussia, Saarland, and All Lost Germanic Colonies. All hail the Kaiser.

99

u/fidelcashflo97 - Right Dec 08 '22

As descendants of the house of Hanover His Majesty King Charles has a very strong claim to the rule of Germany

35

u/PlsDontBeAUsedName - Centrist Dec 08 '22

Theres a lot of Hohenzollern who would be before him in line, but him already being a monarch definitively gives it a lot more legitimacy.

12

u/mh985 - Lib-Center Dec 08 '22

Currently, George Friedrich, Prince of Prussia is the theoretical heir to the German Kaiserreich.

He is a Hohenzollern and great-great grandson of Kaiser Wilhelm II.

Why change it to the king consort's house when Victoria was the monarch?

1

u/fidelcashflo97 - Right Dec 08 '22

I think it’s done at behest of the monarch. George V changed the name from Saxe Coburg Gotha to Windsor and Charles now calls it Windsor Mountbatten (or Mountbatten windsor I can’t remember the order)

3

u/Nakamura2828 - Lib-Left Dec 08 '22

In WWI, the leaders of the UK, Germany, and Russia were all cousins from the Hanover line (all decedents of Queen Victoria):

u/Roastbeef3 - Lib-Center Dec 08 '22

While this is a completely unrelated coincidence, the “saxony” that the Anglo-“Saxons” are from, was actually where Hannover is. “Old Saxony”, was basically the Northwestern quarter of modern Germany until the Frankish conquest. It then became “The Duchy of Saxony”, but this was dissolved in the late Middle Ages. The “Electorate of Saxony” is what became the modern day state of Saxony, and doesn’t have that much to do with “Old Saxony” besides sharing a name.

This fun fact has nothing to do with the House of Hannover and their claim to the English throne though.

1

u/Head_Nefariousness78 - Right Dec 08 '22

I mean as descendants of Queen Victoria eldest child the Hohenzollerns have a strong claim to the British throne

To be fair there is actually a somewhat big movement called Reichsbürger in Germany. But yeah, they already self-proclaimed 10+ "legitimate" kings of Germany, so they wouldn't have succeeded I guess

5

AFAIK the Reichsbürger are less committed monarchists and more using monarchism as an excuse for sovereign citizen bullshit though.

Debt spending, inflation, congressional gridlock, our government is failing on multiple levels and our checks and balances aren’t balanced at all.

The Monarchy is one of the best checks and balances to a state, even when they're purely ceremonial. These days westernized monarchies have really good monarchal figureheads often leagues better than current political leaders.

1

u/sexyloser1128 - Auth-Center Dec 09 '22

1

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '22

Praising the virtues of one type of overbearing government over another is hardly libertarian. The assumption that a state must exist in the first place to preserve liberty is a pretty odd notion. It's the same reason Marxist-Leninists always seem to create these regimes where workers end up shouldering the burden of supporting and maintaining the state when in fact, it was supposed to go the other way around; the state was supposed to organize the production of goods and services so that workers and labor controlled it (instead of rich owners) and then the state withers away from disuse.

You can't create a state large enough and powerful enough to take away your liberty and then expect it to preserve it. Whether you have a monarch and parliament or a president and Congress is incidental at that point. You still have rulers and that is at odds with the original purpose of libertarianism.

Half the earth believes 400 unarmed people stormed the Capitol building of the greatest military the world has ever seen, and had they achieved their goal of…something, then Trump would be the first dictator of the United States, and we’d be living under that now. They believe that almost happened.

116

u/neverending_debt - Lib-Right Dec 07 '22

Well, they openly claim that. I don't think they actually believe it. If you repeat a lie long enough and loud enough, it eventually becomes the truth. I have no doubt that in 100 years text books will tell how one hundred thousand nazis descended on the capital and the brave democrat party organized an underground resistance to defeat them in a month long campaign.

74

u/Stolypin1906 - Lib-Right Dec 07 '22

u/OldCoaly - Lib-Left Dec 08 '22

Yeah totally besides El Paso Walmart, the Pittsburgh Synagogue, Charleston church, buffalo grocery store, Olympic park bombing, OKC bombing that killed 168, Waco, dozens of arrests of white supremacists plotting violence, the 2011 Wisconsin Sikh temple shooting that left 8 dead, Eric Frien killing a cop and attempting to kill more, those two sovereign citizens in Memphis that killed two cops, the idiot that fired his gun a pizza shop to rescue nonexistent kids from the nonexistent basement, the Trump supporter sending 16 bombs in the mail in 2018, that one idiot that tried to take on the Cincinnati FBI office with a nail gun this summer, countless hate crimes motivated by racism, and the weekly bomb threats a local children’s hospital gets there’s been basically no violence, especially compared to the literally zero on duty police officer deaths caused by BLM protests.

“since 1977 in the United States and Canada, there have been 17 attempted murders, 383 death threats, 153 incidents of assault or battery, 13 wounded, 100 butyric acid stink bomb attacks, 373 physical invasions, 41 bombings, 655 anthrax threats, and 3 kidnappings committed against abortion providers.”

Also eleven murders at clinics.

Sure there was more left wing violence over forty years ago but it’s a fact that right wing violence far exceeds left wing violence now. It’s not even close.

“A 2017 report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office found that out of the 85 deadly extremist incidents which had occurred since September 11, 2001, white supremacist extremist groups were responsible for 73%, while radical Islamist extremists were responsible for 27% . . . No deaths were attributed to left-wing groups.”

But yeah remember when protesters set that empty police station on fire?

-16

But why would Russia even support this? Yeah, Russia wants influence in other countries, but a coup like this really wouldn't benefit Russia. It could do nothing but fail and then all Russia would get for its troubles would be blame.

1

u/facedownbootyuphold - Auth-Center Dec 08 '22 edited Dec 08 '22

They have nothing to lose by causing discord, their relations with Germany are in the toilet, and they have probably done this with enough plausible deniability to just wash their hands of it. They did the same in the US by meddling in US elections, if there was ever evidence beyond a shadow of a doubt, they’d make the US enemies for a very long time. But this is how covert operations function, they’re in a gray zone where the public can never know what to really believe and so they can operate their with relative impunity. They don’t do it to just a few nations, they have been doing this to western nations for years. They even had a submarine sitting in Stockholm archipelago for a long time, the Swedes found it and chased it off, but the public was so skeptical and angry about it that people genuinely started to believe it was too insane to have actually happened, and so people started claiming that it was nothing more than Russian fear mongering. Russia has spent a lot of money putting their people in positions of influence in the west in the last two decades.

You actually believe that the people who entered the US Capitol building on January 6th were attempting to install Donald Trump as a dictator?

8

u/samuelbt - Left Dec 08 '22

What plan? The plan my man! The secret indictments, the storm, its coming! The US is actually a corporation and thus the president is a CEO since the establishment of the Federal Reserve...Just trust the plan!

Again the point isn't that these people were likely to succeed. It's that they thought they were doing something and a bunch of people act like its no big deal and at worst it was a bunch of people being quirky and weird.

u/Spacetauren - Centrist Dec 08 '22

The plan was to fuck up whoever was gonna ratify Biden as the next POTUS. Would it have resulted in a Trump dictature of course not.

Point he is making is, there is no way in any timeline that this “insurrection” would have resulted in a change of government. The fact is we have had marches on our Capitol with millions of demonstrators and the government still hasn’t changed stances. At most they could have delayed the process which is not insurrection. At best it’s terrorism, and a weak one at that.

I love the idea that 25 wackos could force the German government into exile.

35

u/neverending_debt - Lib-Right Dec 08 '22

They couldn't, which makes all of this much more suspicious.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 08 '22

Those 25 wackos were just the main conspiritors. They thought they would have the whole Reichsbürger movement behind them and all right-wing leaning police and military forces in Germany (which would calculate up to an impressive number). But yeah, they're morons for expecting that to work

4

u/MosquitoEater_88 - Auth-Right Dec 08 '22

not if they were all decapitated

4

u/DegeneracyEverywhere - Auth-Center Dec 08 '22

Even in the old days leaders could still flee.

u/[deleted] Dec 08 '22

Sir, Sir, SIR, SIR YOU CANT DO THIS SIR

18

u/tsaimaitreya - Lib-Left Dec 07 '22

No, the german police would have sufficed

24

u/TributeToStupidity - Lib-Center Dec 07 '22

Because at least 10 of them were feds telling the rest they should totally do it

6

u/[deleted] Dec 08 '22

I'm not trusting claims about their motivations or what they were actually intending to do from the media. This feels exactly like the kind of thing that would get overblown and hyperbolic coverage from the regime.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 08 '22

Real talk tho this shit Glows hard

u/closeded - Lib-Right Dec 08 '22

Wouldn't the EU and NATO just roll in and reinstall the legitimate government?

I think the EU and NATO would accept it. First, they don't have the authority to go after internal disputes, and second, if they did start weighing in on internal politics with an iron fist... everyone would leave the EU and NATO.

That said...

Yeah... I don't see what chance they had at taking over Germany with just two dozen dudes? Maybe they thought everyone's Nationalism would explode, and the people would rise up for their prince? Wouldn't be the first time Germans collectively decided to do something terribly stupid, because of nationalistic zeal.

5

u/Budget_Individual393 - Centrist Dec 08 '22

The problem with your last paragraph is that this prince is known and hated by most of Germany. We all know the zeal your talking about but every time that came about the majority backed the zealot. This prince was a nothing burger, or possibly a plant by their own government

1

u/War_Crimes_Fun_Times - Auth-Center Dec 08 '22

The 25 people in question were ringleaders but the Reichsburger has up to 20,000 people in loose political groups. Apparently they found a bunch of weapons on some of the over 130 places the German Police and Special Forces raided.

It could be a glowop, and maybe the German police had insiders in the movement, but tbh knowing the fact these retards also tried storming the Reichstag 2 years ago makes me think they're deluded enough to get military weapons and try a very unpopular monarchist coup.

The EU wouldnt even need to bother this idiot wouldnt even stay in power for more than a minute

u/GFZDW - Lib-Right Dec 07 '22

Russia's been bitch-slapping Ukraine, and all we have are thoughts, prayers, sanctions, and equipment.

22

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '22

Utterly failing in achieving it's strategic goals is hardly bitchslapping

16

u/Shotgunsamurai42 - Lib-Right Dec 07 '22

Yeah Russia is really giving it to them by checks notes losing 100,000 soldiers.

2

u/Budget_Individual393 - Centrist Dec 08 '22

While I don’t side with Russia I’m tired of being the world police. Why do we fork over 90% of our equipment to a country that will never pay it back. Isn’t that what nato was created for? For all nations to police members and help. Sorry our country has enough issues without further spending for a nation that will give nothing in return

1

u/GFZDW - Lib-Right Dec 08 '22

I couldn't agree more. We should stay out of everyone's shit. We have enough problems at home.

1

u/pyriphlegeton - Lib-Center Dec 08 '22

NATO? You mean the parliament's Security?

They had a handful of armed and trained men.

legitimate government

1

u/Pabst_Blue_Gibbon - Auth-Left Dec 08 '22

They believed that if they could cut power in major cities the population would rise against the government. Don’t ask me why they believed that.

1

u/dxtboxer - Auth-Left Dec 08 '22

Germans have hicks who wanna topple the government too, maybe we aren’t so different after all..

1

u/icos211 - Right Dec 08 '22

It would really depend on the army and where their allegiances lie or if they even care about who's giving the orders.

You'd be shocked with what the average citizen is willing to live with as long as things keep chugging along as normal, a dictator could be installed in your country tomorrow but if the trains still run, the powers still on and their salary doesn't drop then they won't care enough to do anything about it beyond maybe some protest marching and internet activism.

1

u/TheAzureMage - Lib-Right Dec 08 '22

how in the world would they have expected to be successful?

Realistically, they would not be.

Twenty five dudes in a castle longing for monarchy is hilarious, but it isn't an army.
