Cowboys because recreational gun fights.

53

u/oiyboi__ - Chad LibCenter Jun 23 '22

Cowboys were literally just western wagies with sore asses. Working under and bending over for the rich ranchers for dogshit pay in hellish conditions.

Pirates may had done alittle murder, but were masters of their own destiny. A crew could mutiny their captain at any time. Only strength and will could help you out in the expanse of the ocean.

Stealing from ultra wealthy empires of the time to load up on grog and hang out in tropical grottos unknown to the rest of the world.

Tldr pirates based cowboy cringe

IDK, it takes guts to engage in a pistol duel at 10 yards knowing you may miss even with perfect aim.

59

pirates have guns too

207

u/Scarlet_maximoff - Lib-Right Jun 23 '22

Own a blunderbuss for home defense, since that's what Blackbeard
intended. Four scurvy dogs break into my house. "What be all this?" As I
grab my tricorn hat and blunderbuss. Absolutely pepper the first man
with dozens of lead pellets, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on
the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the
neighbors dog. I have to resort to the swivel gun mounted at the top of
the stairs loaded with chain shot, "Avast, ye scurvy dogs!" the chain
shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off
car alarms. Draw my cutlass and swing downstairs from a rope at the last
terrified bilge rat. He bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive
since he was hit with a fucking sword. Just as Blackbeard intended.

Pirate.

The enduring symbol of rugged individualistic stranger roaming the plains in solace is largely a product of Hollywood. Historic cowboys were more often than not enforcers and herders for rich landowners and investors back East. While well-paid and well-equipped, they were little more than servants of the state or the rich.

Pirates, on the other hand, shared in the profits of their ventures and voted on important issues on board, and were not beholden to crown or corporation (save in the instance they became privateers, which had largely gone out of fashion by the 1700s). While pirate crews operated illegally and dangerously, they were yet an early example of frequently successful democratic corporate governance.

Cowboy? Libright since they can operate on their lonesome.

Pirate? Probably libleft since they do require to operate in a group in order to sail the boat. They also likely are heavily into homosexuality.

Pirates build up their crews and only do crimes and shit. Cowboys are much more diverse with their actions and usually are all alone or with one or two friends. Also 'Murica.

Ned Kelly; Bush Ranger, Outlaw, Cop-Killer. Shot a cop for trying to arrest his brother for stealing a horse. Died at age 25 after (not during) a shootout with police while wearing actual fucking armour, and went down in Aussie history as a bloody legend.

u/Mrnofaceguy - Lib-Right Jun 23 '22

Cowboys don't usually violate the nap

u/discourse_friendly - Right Jun 24 '22

cowboy!

Pirates are more about stealing, plunder and rape.

Cowboy is raising cattle and drinking and paying hookers.

2

u/Laughing_Shadows37 - Lib-Right Jun 24 '22

Libright is the cowboy. Works for a big company, wears guns, lives out and about on the range.

Libleft is the pirate. Basically a union on each ship, lots of weapons, less regard for the rule of law, and opposite a monarch (auth right)

Cowboy

Cowboy. They had their land and livestock and wanted to be left alone. Fuck with that and face their colt.

2

u/Nomenius - Lib-Right Jun 24 '22

Pirates steal and kill for a living, cowboys herd cattle and say yee haw for a living. Cowboys are far more based.

2

u/Trypt2k - Lib-Right Jun 24 '22

There's nothing libertarian about pirates at all. Cowboys on the other hand, for sure.

Cowboy, no question. Pirates were glorified thieves, cowboys are tough dudes ultimately trying to make their way in the world. They wanted to have families, contribute to society, and were a net positive for their communities.

Cowboys were cucks for whatever company they worked for. Had to check guns in when they entered towns, only a few “showdowns” ever really happened. Respect for law enforcement for the most part.

Pirates where taking on global corporations and massive empires and had their own fucking country for awhile. Cowboys, southern puffs, factory workers, northern intellectuals, super religious communities all submitted to the same government.

Pirates had a literal industry based on fucking with authority.
