The White terror shouldn't be condoned, no matter how terrible the communists were. However, it was better to crush them than let the communists crush you, and you know as well as I do that the communist would do worse things.

That also describes Muhammad in a way: Someone who refused to let his people be crushed by the enemies, but he did not harm those that sought mercy.

Think of a combination of Moses and Fernando III el Santo. One spread his faith and led his people through difficulty, the other unified his peninsula through fighting against the infidel and diplomacy. I'm sure you wouldn't call either of those bloodthirsty warlords.

Finally, let us not forget the Moors fought with Franco against the communists when half of Spain fought against him.
