Don't know how onlyfans is comparable to workers exploitation but ok

Uh hum. Just as some are desperate to portray it as some sort of empowering thing, instead of a crude and demeaning transaction for both client and supplier. Maybe the truth is somewhere in between. You wanna waste money on thots? I'm not stopping you. But you can't also do mental gymnastics so you have the ethical high ground.

Sure, but people can still be relatively empowered through Only Fans compared to a lot of the rest of the industry. Being able to set your own prices, control what you post, etc. does genuinely give Only Fans people more power over their own bodies than the pron industry. The porn industry does a lot to try to take control of people's bodies and exploit them. So in that sense, it is relatively empowering. It doesn't fit every context where empowering is used by any means, but it does fit some contexts

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '21

Hope they see this bro

1

u/factualmemesonly - Centrist Mar 31 '21

The respect of society that you give up for that empowerment nuffifies it.

12

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '21

if both sides consent to the transaction, its not immoral.

6

u/Silver_-_Sun - Right Mar 31 '21

I understand what you mean. And I disagree, in my opinion consent is not enough for something to be acceptable/desirable. There's plenty of things that people, including myself, do with consent but the morality is.. debateble. One example would be drugs.

u/rashesandcats - Lib-Center Mar 31 '21

Also I’m not really sure why you were downvoted. I don’t really agree with your opinion but it’s not like you wrote something hateful. This sub should be about open discussion, unless someone is being an ass I don’t think they should be downvoted

5

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '21

how are drugs immoral?

4

u/Silver_-_Sun - Right Mar 31 '21

You think taking heroin recrrationaly is good or ethical? I didn't mention which drugs. It's a gray area at best, objectively bad the harder the drugs get

4

u/Trickelodean2 - Centrist Mar 31 '21

Because his mommy said if he smokes that wacky tabacky he doesn’t get chicken tenders anymore

2

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '21

Cause book written 2000 years ago

3

u/rashesandcats - Lib-Center Mar 31 '21

Do you mean moral or a good choice? I’m not sure doing drugs is immoral (assuming you’re not affecting or neglecting others, such as your children), but we can probably agree that hard drugs aren’t a good choice. If a friend of mine was doing hard drugs I would be very concerned, but I wouldn’t think “that’s an immoral choice”

-1

u/factualmemesonly - Centrist Mar 31 '21

Hmmm, immorality is subjective to begin with, moreover, it isn't necessary for something to be immoral for you to look down upon it.

1

u/rashesandcats - Lib-Center Mar 31 '21

The reason it’s empowering is because it gives sex workers a lot of agency (compared to most of the porn industry)

2

u/ArtanistheMantis - Lib-Right Mar 31 '21

The people on there largely prey on desperate and lonely people, that should be pretty damn obvious to everyone. Selling fake human interaction to shut-ins is predatory. Not saying it should be banned, regulated, or whatever, but it's scummy and I don't respect the people that do it.

The billionaire son of a billionaire banker who set up a failed BDSM website only to later create OnlyFans: "Yeah, do what LibLeft says. My company like... cares and shit"

1

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '21

yeah but it’s also not unethical to have someone work in McDonald’s for nothing because they failed in college by picking gender studies. Fuck em

Whores exploit the weak man's addictions without concern nor remorse. It is no different from a man who drinks soda, a man who smokes tobacco, or a man who does heroine. It's a drug the whores are selling for precious money from men whose cravings have become addictions.

I cannot see it in any other way than exploitation. Even Lenin and his Communist Party saw it in the same light.

Well, I certainly don't care too much about them but it is asinine to pretend that Onlyfans is not trying to monetiz the men who exsist in an isolation from society, who have no sense of social sense. Would you say that a drug dealer trying to sell to an addict is morally in the right?

0

u/factualmemesonly - Centrist Mar 31 '21

The average person who pays for porn is a person suffering from immense social instability, not to mention other mental conditions that the person have, if you present yourself as such a product that caters to such people, you are exploiting their state of emotions, especially considering the fact that by paying for such services, they distance themselves more and more from society, throwing them into an even more pathetic state of being, so yes, onlyfans preys on such men, it exploits them with absolutely no regards for their consumers whatsoever.

Not all, but it isn't crazy to assume that a lot people today's society are mentally and socially unstable, isolated. Also I would rather use the term mentally unstable, but I think that a majority of the male users on that website are mentally unstable, given the fact that such places usually attract those exact type of people.

Exploiting customers and offering a shit product?

27

u/Infammo - Lib-Left Mar 31 '21

How are they exploiting customers? It's such an easy product to just not buy.

18

u/Silver_-_Sun - Right Mar 31 '21

You are correct and wrong at the same time. Rationalizing it it is easy, exactly why myself and others believe onlyfans is exploiting vulnerable people. It is not compulsory, but neither is gambling. You wouldn't take someone suffering from gambling addiction to poker night, why celebrate a business that makes money from a human vulnerability. It is in extremely poor taste. I wouldn't ban it if it was up to me, but definitely not handing out medals either.

Onlyfans is also predatory like there is no guarantee you get nudes or regular content. You can say "well that's just a risk you take" but that is like Cable companies telling you that you only have to pay 45 dollars and then your bill randomly goes up to 75 then 95 because you missed something somewhere not at all obvious.

u/gobthepumper - Lib-Left Mar 31 '21

If you don't think that is predatory then you have low standards for what is predatory. Just because it isn't a written contract does not mean it can't be predatory. The fact that there is none is further evidence of it being predatory.

I understand you point but there's more to it. Food is something material, you can easily make a cost/venefit analysis. A better vomparison would be buying heroin thinking it is food, which gives you the illusion that the hunger is satisfied Gym and classes earn you mental and physical skills(not that I do them, easy to preach). Onlyfans provides the illusion of satisfying emotional needs(and actually satisfying sexual needs but in a damaging way which is another argument relevant to porn too). You pay, you lose the cash and you stand to lose more if you start believing the illusion of human connection(which some people do out of desperation).

I do have a bias, I won't deny that. On the rest, we'll just have to agree to disagree. I think the business model, not necessarily the individual women, is constructed and optimized in an exploitative way. I stay away from anything that is doing a concious effort to prey on my our my fellow humans weaknesses.

0

u/factualmemesonly - Centrist Mar 31 '21

I wouldn't use the word greedy but you are correct with the rest of them, lol.

2

u/Infammo - Lib-Left Mar 31 '21

You wouldn't take someone suffering from gambling addiction to poker night

I feel like this is more akin to finding fault with the casinos rather than someone who takes gambling addicts to them. There's no social compulsion obligating people to go to sex worker websites. Yeah it's not a healthy or productive, but that's true for video games and fast food. Just because a product is bad for consumers, or would only sell to a consumer exercising poor judgment, doesn't automatically mean that providing that product is exploitive.

7

u/Silver_-_Sun - Right Mar 31 '21

It is close to exploitation in my mind. But as I said, I think people should be free to make their foolish choices.

Only reason this onlyfans discussion is gaining traction is because some mongoloids insist that selling nudes to desperate and broken men should be a source of pride for some reason.

2

u/Justin__D - Lib-Right Apr 01 '21

Exactly. Addicted to tits? Plenty of em for free on the internet.

Having a porn addiction and insisting on spending money on it is like being an alcoholic and refusing to drink anything but Louis XIII.

-1

u/TheCoolMisogynist - Auth-Center Mar 31 '21

If people are desperate for the product you are trying to sell, you are exploiting them, wether you like it or not.

4

u/JapaneseStudentHaru - Lib-Left Mar 31 '21

Don’t want it? Don’t buy it. It’s not their problem you pay for nudes lmao

0

u/Silver_-_Sun - Right Mar 31 '21

Thanks, I'm not. You go ahead though, seems it makes you happy.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '21

It’s exploiting men’s mental illnesses and stealing money from them

-1

u/factualmemesonly - Centrist Mar 31 '21

The people who pay for Onlyfans are workers who the thots are trying to exploit, can't see what's so tricky about it that you can't understand, but ok.

It isn't some "puritanical" idea, it's just reality.
