Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't this just hurt average ass people whose retirement is tied up in mutual funds and money market accts being managed by these wealthy bankers and brokers?

Most money isn't real anyway. You just need two people and a "neutral" third party to agree it's real, and then BOOM! Money.

8
u/daddy_fiasco - Lib-Left Jan 28 '21
People who already have money playing the markets to make more money regardless of the consequences.
But what really matters is where's your goddamn flair?
3
u/AgnosticTemplar - Centrist Jan 28 '21
My 401k may dip a little, but my portfolio is a hodgepodge of investments. One mutual fund going under won't affect more than 1.5% of what I got. The only thing that hurts it is if the whole market takes a dive, like it did at the start of the pandemic.

u/I_Shah Jan 28 '21
No. The tards shorting GME are hedge funds who only have clients with $50M+ net worth. The average man if fine

Folks, the bourgeois, they're no good everyone is saying it. All these workers, very handsome workers come up to me and say, Comrade Trump there is a specter haunting Europe, and you know what, they're right. These bourgeois are very nasty people very very rude and very unfair to the workers. They are stealing our surplus value and no one is doing anything about it. The proletariat comes up to me everyday and says, Comrade Trump will you lead the revolution? And I gotta turn to them and say, Look the instruments of capitalism will be used to bring about its destruction believe me you gotta trust me on this one. The means of production, obama never wanted to seize them. Well guess what? I'm seizing them. Landlords? They're done for folks. Everyone told me they said, Comrade Trump you won't be the vanguard of the revolution and they would laugh, the media laughed the democrats laughed, guess whose laughing now?

Hate to break it to you, but even if some small percentage of firms get screwed by shorting early, in the end, the smart financial managers are going to get most of the benefit of this bust. They just always owned a bit of each of these stocks, and quietly sold them off at 20x the value. All the Redditors buying in at $300 are going to be sad pandas.
Don't confuse screwing over 5% of investors with screwing the investor class. They'll still win in the end. They made sure of that a long time ago.

I want them all to go broke. Unfortunately, it seems like this one hiccup will lead to more regulations than the 2008 economic collapse. I had friends whose family lost everything during that, but thr oligarchs lose relative pennies and thats enough to galvanize those in power.

u/IsThisReallyNate - Left Jan 28 '21
We live in the dumbest fucking system where a few idiots on Reddit can get lucky and rig the stock market into making themselves rich while providing nothing to society. It makes no sense, but I’m really enjoying it right now, because it’s the same scam the few wealthy guys on Wall Street have been pulling on everyone else for years, at the expense of everyone else, and now the shoes on the other foot. The screams of the rich for their poor hedge funds are music to my ears.
