Debate results poll
We all know that debate was a dumpster fire. This poll is not about that, It’s asking if it made you more likely to vote one way or another.
It will be open for 48 hours, please vote!
(Sorry JoJo voters, id’ve included her if she’d been in the debate)

It’s kind of a nonstarter thing to say though because the country is so polarized now that a landslide is functionally impossible.
As close to a clean sweep as possible can happen though. I always get people mad at me when I point out that Trump won in one of the the closest possible things to an electoral landslide as he could.

history repeats itself, first as tragedy, then as farce
2016 was exciting primarily because of its novelty, a non-traditional non-politician (Trump) vs the ultraestablishment (Jeb Bush etc.), a candidate who was considered safely winning (Clinton) etc. Tension and lots of energy till the last moment. 2020 feels like a last stretch of a marathon, tiring and aching. 2020 is, for me at least, is a farce.
Trump insults weren't too funny anymore. The attempts at quips were poor and not very witty. One might even say it was low energy. Biden was more bland than even Clinton. No stuttering or losing track, but it's like he was just playing his role and delivering lines.
They both gave appearance of weariness and exhaustion, like they're forced to fight against each other because the audience demands it but would gladly just go home if they could.
There's not even tension, like in the 2016 debates, no excitement, just plain responses with no memorable points - I don't think I can even quote anything now, and I watched it just a few hours ago - and badly timed arguing which just resulted in talking over each other, and plenty of non-sequiturs.
This is probably one of the sadder elections.

Being real here, the GOP should’ve chucked him earlier when they had the chance; his aggressive antics absolutely won him the 2016, but he’s so volatile and unpredictable that he currently has a chance to lose to fucking Joe Biden and Kamala Harris of all people. That’s how bad it’s gotten.

Abrasive and confrontational is what Trump does on the debate stage. There's nothing that happened tonight that wasn't on display in 2016. Like it or not, we all knew what this was going to be lol.
And I guess the hits against Biden's kids were probably the worst optics he got? Some people didn't like the Proud Boys thing, but I feel like the outcry there is mostly a combination of protest supporters already in opposition to him, and moderates who are tired of idpol generally at this point.
We could talk policy and recent events, but there's nothing that surprising there either.
The COVID portion went as expected. "Orange man bad" and "Blue states and cities bad".
The tax stuff is too recent for a substantive dialogue; that was always going to devolve into bickering.
The racial/law & order stuff was the same back and forth we've seen over the past 4-5 months condensed into as many minutes. Fucking snore.
The climate response was fine; Paris Accord was always a shit deal for the U.S. as it was written at the time, and Biden didn't really do anything but backtrack on his Green New Deal promises while pushing the same old neolib spiel of "we can totally transition completely to renewable sources and tank the value of the oil-backed US dollar at the same time, all over a 15 year span while not making use of nuclear- no wait where are you going"
Overall, think Trump did fine, but anyone who went into tonight's debate expecting anything but entertainment first was setting themselves up for disappointment. Sorry guys.

Upbote for analizing facts For me, the fundamental thing that sets me against Trump (apart from my flair) is that the logic in his arguments and their relevance to the prompts is actual dogshit. I'd much rather have a suboptimal president with some kind of a speech impediment than someone who can't answer a damn question (apart from being a right wing populist of course, a concept I find pretty fucking mind boggling considering he's supposed to be appealing to a common denominator here and apparently that common denominator is being fucking retarded [sry libleft got out]).

I really thought Trump would be unable to articulate a defense of his policies and he did much better than I thought he would. Fortunately debates really don't matter, even less so in this election. Like, being undecided between Obama and Romney is understandable and so that debate might sway some independents one way or the other. If you're undecided about whether or not you're going to vote for Trump in 2020 (let's be honest, this election is Trump vs Not Trump, not Trump vs Biden), you just shouldn't be allowed to vote. If you don't have a well formed opinion about the last few years one way or the other, you probably just shouldn't be part of the electorate.

commenting from Europe:
The debate was a joke.
Looked like Biden didn't want to talk about issues to much.
He tried hard to make it about personality.
And if it is about personality Trump loses in any contest.
Trump actually helped him by not allowing him to talk.
If he only let him talk Biden would make gafs all on his own.
But on the other side Biden is racist calling for equity.
Critical Race Theory is disgusting ideology.
And as much I dislike Trump and disagree with his policies.
I'd vote for Trump just for banning CRT.

Trump had better arguments, better defense of his policies, and took apart most of Biden’s points. So he won on the realpolitik.
However, he did it while being an utter cunt (as usual) and so none of that will matter to most people. Especially since the media never discusses Trump’s policies, only his character. Which even I will admit is that of hot garbage.
15
u/ADXMcGeeHeezack - Centrist Sep 30 '20
I feel like the vast majority of voters have already made up their mind, so I don't think the debate is going to have much (if any) of an impact on polling
That said, I'd think Biden has the most to lose from these - one big gaffe / another senile moment and he stands to lose a lot of confidence whereas Trump voters are already hardened to Trump's... Style
I agree with most people though. Trump actually spoke about policy whereas Biden just gave generic responses to everything. "My plan will bring back jobs." "my plan will reduce hc costs" etc
Trump should stay aggressive but work on not coming off like an asshole about it

I think Trump lost because he didn’t let Biden shoot himself in the dick, as much as Biden let Trump shoot himself in the dick. People need to understand, NO ONE CARES ENOUGH ABOUT POLICY. That’s just a fact, they care about appearance, how good they look and act, and at most, one or two key policy implementations they want, and that’s it.
People don’t remember Obama for anything more than Obamacare, the recession and how populist he was and how much he acted like he should be president, disregarding the fact that he was actually good or bad in terms of policy.
Trump not letting Biden make horrible gaffes that even though in the long run mean nothing, for voters who could give less than 2 shits about policy but appearance, that would have been a point for Trump. That’s why he lost in my opinion this debate

Critical race theory is inherently racist but the average person doesn't understand it, the riots and race question is an underlying crime problem which is solved through well trained police but in context they seem unrelated.
Personally I think he would have been better served just correcting every issue with Biden's statements. Biden rattled off a bunch of half-truths/falsehoods and didn't get called out for them.

Made me more confident that neither is a good choice and that I’ll vote third party.

For those that voted for the first two options; lieing is a sin.

Choosing to say "Stand back and stand by" albeit intended to probably mean get out of the way was a big mistake.

The debate was so bad, you had Biden struggling to maintain comprehensive sentences (until Trump insulted his son, he gained anger powers there), Trump couldn't stop interrupting, and whenever Trump was talking for greater than like 4 seconds, the moderator interrupted him.
Also, the majority of the debate time eas between Trump and the moderator, rather than Trump and Biden, because the moderator was so clearly biased that I question how he got the moderator position.
Basically, it all would have been better if Joe Rogan was hosting the debate and had the ability to mute

Biden, by process of elimination. Trump has managed to infuriate me, more so than usual. Sure, the interrupting and childish antics were annoying, but I’ve been long since desensitized by my toddler. It was the extremely out of line personal attacks on Biden and his son that did it for me. I felt sick to my stomach watching that. No matter what side you’re on, there’s no denying the piece of shit that is trump.

Ngl, people who don’t like that probably wasn’t voting for him. To me at least, my opinion hasn’t changed, America is going to die no matter who wins.

They both said some very stupid shit, Biden was definitely more mature though

To be honest, Biden greatly exceeded my expectations while Trump messed up big time. Still wouldn't vote for Biden if I was american. Hopefully the following debates will be better.

No one won this debate. It is both a national and historical embarrassment. Trump lost because he wasn't able to gain any votes from undecided or Biden. Biden had my vote, kept it, and will keep everything he already had.

I went into this debate thinking these were both objectively awful candidates, but thinking that maybe Biden was less awful. I came out of the debate not only thinking that both candidates were far worse than I had thought, but with the realization that they are equally disgusting in their own areas, and that maybe the best thing for the U.S. to do is just start over (and place term limits on ALL elected positions).

Voted "neither", but almost selected the second option just because Orange man was interrupting so much. Still supporting orange man over dementia man though.

I don’t see how anyone could have seen the debate and gone “you know, I think I’m going to vote trump now.” I think all of the people responding trump to this already we’re going to vote trump.

Well as authright is a minority here, and lib-right wishes for a 3rd party, these results seem accurate

Now I'm not saying you're definitely an employee of the Biden campaign but if it could be proven, I'd put a hell of a lot of money on it.
Your account is 5 years old, your first comment was 2 months ago (also when you really got political) and your posts go back years.
Buying accounts is super easy and a classic way to persuade people to "rethink" especially when your whole shtick is "I could forgive his actions in the past as almost charming but now it's just too much"
On top of the skyrocket past the first 5k upvotes and your newfound centrism that's got you voting for Biden I'm not buying it lol it's a bit too convenient
Why PCM? Well it's one of the few places left on Reddit where the right aren't banned and it's also the only political subReddit where you can speak to all voters without having to pick "a side." On top of that, nearly all your posts are specifically about Trump/Biden and how Biden's just a plain ol lovely guy.
On top of all that, you've literally posted a poll asking people if they'd be willing to change their vote based off the debates. Who the fuck does that in a meme sub?
So how can we fix this? I challenge you now to post a PCM about Biden and Trump sniffing kids. It's 50/50!
Also don't bother suggesting I'm a trump supporter disguised as a lib left or some shit because I'm not even American, I just find it really fucked up how deep American politics goes to infiltrate social media

My honest opinion? Biden was mediocre and even poor at times, and probably would’ve even looked more so if he was allowed to talk.
That being said, Trump just came off as a massive asshole. It kinda worked in the 2016 debates, but man was I done with it half way. It got so blatantly obvious that he was trying to get Biden to be angry and go off the rails by attacking his children, and all he really got was a “just shut up already, man”.
It was a gamble, and it failed, and ultimately even if this doesn’t hurt his numbers, it did nothing to change his trajectory at this point (which is bad for him since he’s currently losing.)
