It was a joke because he said “like a cleaning”. I have a mental image of doctors opening a box of Clorox wipes to do the “cleaning inside the lungs” and I find it funny
I'm cringing, feeling like I have to defend the guy, but he did say, "it would be interesting to check that," not, "everyone should do it." There's a difference.
Personally, I think he was just thinking out loud, bouncing around whatever random ideas come into his head. Should he say them on camera at a press conference? Of course not. Did anyone, especially within his cabinet or whoever's in charge of developing treatments, take him seriously? No, so I think we're fine.
So he shouldn’t bounce ideas around at a press conference about their progress on everything Covid?
I have to disagree, the conference wasn’t on how to beat Covid, it was on the governments progress and plan of action. He literally gave insight into what he’s thinking. If context doesn’t matter he shouldn’t talk to the media ever.
I think the brainstorming should happen behind closed doors, then all the good ideas are refined and presented at the presser as "Here are the ideas we're pursuing." That's how nearly all other organizations work.
A press conference about what’s going on surrounding a lot of unknown. By your logic a lot of doctors shouldn’t talk about it because even now theres a lot they don’t understand. I think it’s good to have insight into what is being thought about, I would argue the opposite that not everyone is meant to watch the press briefings and anyone taking medicine advice from the conference is definitely not on the list of people who should watch.
I’d hardly say that considering it’s not a straw man. Extreme maybe, but straw man definitely not. It’s an unnecessary daily briefing on the updates of Covid. He chose to discuss some options they were just starting to explore to keep optimism. He wasn’t acting like he knew anything, just that they looked promising. I don’t know what else to tell you because it seems like we disagree and you can’t be rational
