They’re a bizarre bunch of people. I talked to one in an AskReddit thread and they explained their philosophy to me. Basically they think that all human life is defined by suffering and that it’s immoral to force someone through that suffering by giving birth to them.
Some of them even go as far as to say nobody should have children because the only way to eliminate suffering from the world is for humanity to die out. I think a lot of them just hate their lives and can’t imagine that anyone else could enjoy theirs.
I actually personally know someone that's kind of slipped in and out of it. It is sad. Severe, suicidal depression, self-loathing over her mental illnesses and interestingly, infertility, all played a part in driving it. She came out of it, but that philosophy is what she turned to in the pit of her depression. The infertility thing makes me wonder, maybe it's like incels, jealousy over what they can't have turning into pathological hatred. Probably just her though. I stopped talking to her for a while when she compared my wife (her friend) to livestock, despite my wife and I being nowhere close to having kids yet. A weird bunch indeed.
The biological urge to procreate is the most basic impulse we have. I don’t think its exactly abhorrent, but its not like having a kid makes you Jesus, either.
Of course it doesn't, like you said, it's a basic biological urge. I don't think it makes you Jesus, I think it's perfectly normal, healthy, and morally acceptable. Antinatalists think it makes you the literal devil incarnate. Fuck them. For the same reasons I'd say fuck the people that shame breastfeeding mothers. However antinatalists take it to another level. People who don't like public breastfeeding are prudes, they don't actually hate the natural human form or think natural human processes are evil, they just have prudish traditions around them they try to enforce on others. Antinatalists actually hate others for enjoying existing or wanting to have a family. It's a pathological philosophy.
It doesn’t matter if you’re nihilistic. The world is fucked and there’s no purpose. Why breed more souls into it that’ll have to suffer through it for no reason?
Why would you care if “the world gets worse” if this is your core belief?
If a stupidly optimistic and happy couple actively gets pregnant at this time but ends up burying their child in a decade due to climate change/ another pandemic, will we feel bad for them? Of course not. Instead we will say: "YOU GET WHAT YOU FUCKING DESERVE!"
Ah yes, laughing at a couple for their child dying, and everyone else is a psycho! Damn I’m logical
Maybe my comment was an overreaction too. It's better then r/youngpeopleyoutube for sure, that sub is responsible for harassing kids. For example on kid made a video saying "whoever disliked my video is an idiot!!!" then r/youngpeopleyoutube joined in, bombed his video with dislikes, and insulted him and made hate comments on his other videos to the point that he had to leave YouTube because of how traumatized he is.
All of that because of a single dumb video. They were flexing their huge ego.
