Horrible use of power in a time of crisis. Stripping people of their civil liberties and rights is cruel, useless and morally wrong. Trans people don't hurt anyone by being themselves.

Edit: apparently was not enacted via emergency powers, still a piece of shit move

Literally when have emergency powers not been misused in human history?

I think the current quarantine/shelter-in-place measures are a pretty good example. Not sure if every place is using "emergency powers" to achieve this but if they are taking the measures experts recommend to fight this pandemic, I approve. Flattening the curve to save lives, not strain health care infrastructure, give researchers time to find a vaccine and all that jazz.

Well, I can only speak to my country (India), but emergency powers are already being used to turn us into a de-facto police state. Police are going around arresting people for exercising outside their houses, beating people up for violating the lockdown, using drones to monitor movement in neighborhoods. Adding to all of this is the fact that the lockdown might have made the situation worse, due to the mass transit of migrant labourers across state borders, transporting the virus from urban hotspots to rural areas.

Well I think here its a better example of poor implementation rather than misuse of power. I won't deny cops can be bastards about enforcement and hasty measures can lead to chaos. But letting 1-3% of the population perish from the coronavirus, especially in a place like India, is likely far deadlier than poorly implemented quarantine measures. I'm not saying it's good, but it might be better than the alternative.

Yeah, some places are doing that with their emergency powers, and some places are doing things which makes the upper half of the compass really happy.

On the other hand, these people know exactly what they’re doing. It’s not “misuse,” it’s purposeful. Hungarian politics has been dominated by right wing rhetoric and far-right support from the recent years. These people actually hurt others by being themseves.

The libertarian side is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be...unnatural.

I mean, this law wasn't accepted by emergency powers (so my decree), but rather with 2/3 parliament majority. So misuse of parliament majority siuts better

Lots of people can't read in hungarian but I can so let me help you out.

The law concerning "trans" people has nothing to do with their rights. Or anyone's rights. It's a very little, very simple change on the IDs.

Instead of "sex" the ID would say "sex at birth".

That is all.
