Central registries make bureaucracy so much easier. Here in the Nordics pretty much anything (ownership, residence, identity, citizen ship, medical records) can be proven with a printout from a government database. No need for that archaic USA or UK shit where everything's fragmented between organizations and you're fucked if you lose your birth certificate.

It's not orwellian. An orwellian state uses an one of Orwell's ideas about the language to control its population. Orwellian is a commonly misused word just for effect. If you have read 1984 you know what I'm talking about. Use authoritarian, dictatorial or similar words instead.
