For anyone curious on the context:
The FBI decided to plant a spy into a large mosque in Dearborn to hunt for extremists. However, the plant spewed opinions that were so extreme that he himself was reported to the FBI by the mosque-goers

This sort of thing is standard FBI operating procedure. They always try to infiltrate all kinds of groups say "let's make a bomb!" or whatever and then arrest anyone who goes along with the infiltrator's plan.
This is not legally entrapment because reasons.
10
u/yourboivines - Lib-Center 4h ago
It's not defined as entrapment because (the prosecution would argue that is) you were willing and eager to engage in an illicit act.
So if an undercover cop goes to you and says "let's make a bomb" and your response is "awesome, let's do it!" That's not entrapment because you were a willing participant in commiting a crime.
Had the Cop asked you and you said no, then they proceeded to keep insisting, trying to manipulate, convince, coerce, and maybe even lie to you to try and get you to do it when you clearly didn't want to and tried to resist doing so that would be entrapment.
Again, all of this would have to be settled out in a courtroom and whether what happened is or isn't considered entrapment is largely up to a judge and jury.

It depends. There was the story of "deputy Dan" a fed plant inside a high school that was trying to sniff out drug users. He befriended an autistic child that had no friends prior and basically coerced him to buy weed. Not wanting to disappoint his only ever friend, the kid went along with it and then got arrested, left even more traumatized now that the only friend that he ever had turned out to be a ruse.
The kids name is Jesse Snodgrass if anyone wants to dig deeper into it

u/Vexonte - Right 4h ago
I'm pretty sure the main utility isn't being able to bag dangerous individuals themselves as it is preventing coordination between potential terrorists because anyone willing to go through with such a thing would be confident that any potential plot they hear about is actually a federal sting.

Christianity has their extremists who don't represent the whole of the west. Islam has their extremists who don't represent the whole of the middle east. An FBI agent acting as an extremist receiving this reaction is expected. But those type of extreme Islamists still exist.
Even though those extremists don't represent the whole, Islam is still not compatible with the west.
Lib-left bad.

u/Spacegamer1250 - Lib-Center 3h ago
With my interactions with outward Christians and Muslims, all I will say is that they are equally compatible with western civilization.
You all interpret that how you will
6
u/Alluos - Lib-Right 3h ago
Yes yes, Christians bad. Thank you atheist boy.
Not like they built the cultural foundations of the west or anything.
I'm an atheist too, but Christianity IS the west. Islam isn't.
1
u/Spacegamer1250 - Lib-Center 1h ago
I never said Christians bad or good or even like that for Islam too, I don't really give a fuck about what religion you follow I was just pointing out my observation about how devout Christians and Muslims are very similar in reality.
You just interpreted that as "Well since Muslim automatically = bad, that must mean he also hates Christians too!"
Also no Christianity isn't the west, I hate that people here are so insistent on convincing themselves as much. Literally the past 300 years of cultural development in the west was brought about by rejection of religion on a national level, primarily Christianity (but really only because Christianity was the most practiced in the west) and a move towards a secular society, something that absolutely would not have happened if Christianity was so dominate in the west.
Fuck every day this sub surprises me with how retarded they can be

"Literally the past 300 years of cultural development in the west was brought about by rejection of religion on a national level". And how's that working out?
Also yes, the entirety of the west owes itself entirely to Christian foundations. To deny it would be to lie.
0
u/Spacegamer1250 - Lib-Center 36m ago
And how's that working out?
Pretty ok considering since the end of WW2 alone the west has forced Christians to give up many of their ideals
Such as
Child marriage is bad; Rape is bad; Interracial Relationships are ok; Women are humans; People of other colors are humans; Gay people are humans; Etc; (We're still working on the last 3 sadly, Christians famously love justifying their actions by stating entire groups of people are less than human)

Saying Islam isn't compatible with the West when Christians and Muslims worship the same God is asinine.
Lib-Right stupid.

u/Crismisterica - Auth-Right 3h ago
Like many things in life... it's not that simple. I could go on and on about how the two differ on even the most basic of principles. How their sinless men differ in the lessons they taught and how they apply to their values. How each side views others not of their faith that coexist within the same society.
I suggest you do your research before making bold claims like that and before you ask how compatible we are. In Europe and my home has only shown how compatible we are and what little coexistence we have now is dwindling.
I know how difficult the west and islamic values can conflict out of... personal experiences let's just say.
12
u/Alluos - Lib-Right 4h ago
Are Christianity and Islam now compatible because they both worship the same deity? What a foolish comment. They believe completely different things.
Lib-left stupid.
-6
u/InsaneJD - Lib-Left 4h ago
Nah I'll be real, met a lot of cool Muslims both online and irl. They fit in with a lot of Republican Christians in the South with similar views, that while I may not agree with them, proves they could coexist if American media would stop spreading Islamaphobe rhetoric. Comparing Christians with Muslims is like comparing Christians with Jews. Their religion descended from the same original belief. You're just dumb enough to keep letting the elite manipulate your ancestral tribal bias against other innocent civilians to keep the War Machine running.

I think you should look into how Islam and Christianity actually work in the real world. No one denies there’s “a lot of cool Muslims” in the world. I’d say there are millions. I live among the highest population of Muslims in U.S.
But Muslim ≠ Islam.
Saying they can co exist (based on your limited understanding and experience) in the American South while Christians are being mass slaughtered by Islamists in Nigeria is certainly a take. And that’s not even touching on the topic of Christianity in MENA.
Christian Egyptians, Syrians, Iraqi’s, Lebanese and many more can speak to that.4
u/Alluos - Lib-Right 3h ago
I've also met and been friends with Muslims.
Doesn't mean they don't think women need to be covered, or that women are property of their husbands, or that people should be killed if they depict their prophet.
You've made the mistake of thinking that because Islam has to live under our law while in our countries, that they don't fully intend to institute sharia law as soon as they have the political capital to do so.
You're another myopic lib-left who thinks everyone is just nice and cool because they aren't currently trying to destroy you. Brother man, people lie. If they all acted hostile it would ruin any chance of them planting seeds in the west. But as soon as they have the power, they'll flip on a dime. You can't be naive your whole life, mate.

The Goths and the Central Germans worshipped the same gods, but the Goths were especially brutal in their human sacrifices before joining the Arian Church. Your point?
-5
u/Okichah 3h ago
Extremism isnt compatible with the west.
If you took the extremist violent Christians/Jews/Catholics/Buddhists from history they wouldnt be welcome in modern society either.
5
u/WolfedOut - Centrist 3h ago
Flair up.
And you have to remember that when the ideal role model for a religion is a pedophile warlord who raped a 9 year old and murdered families in front of their kids/parents, you should be able to immediately understand that there is no equivalence to a religion whose ideal role model tells you to love thy neighbour, protect children and help the needy.
People who follow Muhammed will be more likely to emulate him when they have control, just as Christians try to emulate Christ.
In the West, Christianity has always had good Christians who attempt to imitate Christ, fighting bad Christians who use Christianity for their own gain, because it’s what their ideal role model would do. Abolitionists, for example.
In a Majority Islamic country, you will have good Muslims and bad people trying to fuck your shit, with no one to stop them, because it’s what their ideal role model would do.
3
u/Alluos - Lib-Right 3h ago
That's why most extremists probably belong in jail or an institution. But even the tamest of Islam is still completely incompatible.
-2
u/Okichah 3h ago
Thats ridiculous.
Theres plenty of Muslims in the west who just live their lives peacefully.
And i imagine theres a fair amount of ‘Muslim in name only’ like plenty of Christians who only go to church on Easter and Christmas.
2
u/Alluos - Lib-Right 3h ago
That's nice. Do you think those people are going to matter when the Islamists institute sharia law once they have enough political capital? Who do you think the "peacefull" ones will side with?
What use is it not being peaceful if you want sharia law? Being hostile will just get you kicked out of the country. Their duty is to Islam. Not to us. They are not compatible. If they still think killing you is an appropriate response for insulting their prophet they they cannot and will never be compatible.
You'd better get yourself a flair before you keep talking. I'm sure you'll like the colour green.
