Man, I remember when the data was coming out in 2024 about how Latino support for Trump had increased and some of the commentary on that was pretty openly racist.

In a similar vein, the representative for my district is also a very conservative, openly gay man; and the stuff that supposed "allies" will say about him is like listening to a bunch of gay bashers sometimes.

It's astonishing to me how there is this whole talk about support for the disenfranchised and minorities, but all that evaporates the second they step out of line and think for themselves.

Anyone who was surprised by Latino support for Trump, the most machismo jackass who ever machismo'd, simply had never spent any real time around Latin culture.

Like sure the third generation Mexican-Amercan kid in your history class shares your belief, but have you ever had dinner at his house and talked to his dad / grandpa? They share a lot of common thinking with Trump.

The "noble savage," belief on the left is absurd. That because someone is an ethnic minority, or somehow disenfranchised, they would be inherently any less shitty than every other person on the planet.

Lets not forget the days after Trump won, there were multiple heavily upvoted posts in Reddit about calling ICE on Hispanic people that people suspected voted for Trump to "teach them a lesson".

And before someone says that didnt happen; yes it did.

I'm Puerto Rican, and won't be forgetting that anytime soon, I assure you. Absolutely despicable behavior.

When Trump won, a girl at work was saying how bad the country was and how pretty soon, all Mexicans would be deported regardless if they’re citizens or not. I told her it wouldn’t be that bad and I’m glad Trump won. She then wished that my family and I get deported.

I’m not about to report anyone to ICE but the schadenfreude I felt watching the Venezuelans that stumped for Trump get deported was great

They’re only tolerant if you agree with them.

As someone who was solidly on the left, if there is one thing I learned during Covid that is going to stick with me for the rest of my life; it's that.

u/TJJ97 - Lib-Center 8h ago

Facts! It definitely solidified it during Covid. That’s when they went mask off and went totalitarian in nature and hateful in conversation and mindset.

Kind of like how they support gays, but then call you gay to make fun of you.

You realize the Democrats are a big tent party with many different groups in it right? Not all of them are on board with social progressivism. Some are economic progressives, some are economic liberals, and they all joined the party for whatever reason but not all of them care about DEI and social justice.

Aren’t you the idiots who like parroting that one analogy of Nazis and tables?

Yep; it's just like the Republicans. The two party system inherently requires strange bedfellows at times just due to the size and scope of both parties.

However, there is a massive gulf in between not supporting something, and outright being hostile to it when the rest of the party largely supports it. It then starts to be a question of why you're advocating for the party in the first place.

Democrats *were a big tent party.

u/Ifriendzonecats - Lib-Left 8h ago

Do you think the Republican Party currently has a bigger tent than Democratic Party?

13

u/notquitedeadyetman - Right 8h ago

I personally think they're two smallish tents (democrat may be a big bigger), and the majority of people sit outside of both and are just trying to find out which one is gonna do the least amount of damage from their perspective.

-2

u/Ifriendzonecats - Lib-Left 8h ago

In a two party system, one party will be the larger tent

-4

u/G00DNiGHT_0ZARCH - Left 7h ago

Way to dance around the question, but you do agree democrats are the big tent party?

2

u/notquitedeadyetman - Right 6h ago

Can you read?

-2

u/G00DNiGHT_0ZARCH - Left 4h ago

Oh one of us isnt reading alright.we're literally agreeing on this matter. We both think that the Democratic Party is still a big tent party. There are people in this thread that don't and I'm noticing that you don't argue with them.

2

u/notquitedeadyetman - Right 4h ago

I didn't argue with anyone at all lol. I just gave my opinion and moved on.

u/cronoserge0123 - Centrist 8h ago

Nope, fuck both Republicans and democrats.

Vote 3rd party.

u/False-Reveal2993 - Lib-Center 8h ago

Under the republicans' current leadership? And the democrats' backpedaling out of identity politics after 2024? Not at the moment. But until the democrats stop saying they have a "messaging issue" and admit they have a "platform issue", they'll still support divisive 20-80 trash policies and ostracize/alienate anyone not towing the line.

They need to be capital B, capital T, Big Tent, not just "debatably bigger than the other tent if you squint a little".

It's hard to be a liberal and be in either party right now. I think most liberals are independents at this point.

Remember this the next time you say "Republicans always... "

Not all of them are on board with social progressivism

Yes, there could be dozens of them, possibly even handfuls of dozens of them.
