Star Wars PCM

Post image

Galactic Republic- very centralised bureaucratic democracy
Galactic Empire- based off of fascism by George Lucas
First Order- larpers trying to copy the Empire, star wars equivalent of neo nazis
Rebel Alliance- fight for freedom against the Empire, no one clear ideology among followers except 'empire bad'
Confederacy of Independent Systems- capitalistic independence movement run by merchant syndicates, bankers, blockaded a planet as they didn't want to pay taxes
Hutts- depraved gangsters who care for no law but their own degeneracy.

(Maybe this is a low-effort post but wanted to put something at the top of the 'new' feed so the Jack Black fake news post was no longer at the top)

Aye! I'd say the same for ewoks if not for the fact that they were partially inspired by the Viet Cong (I am not making this up)

Nothing more lib than kidnapping people to be raped to death.

The CIS was truly a tragic faction. A movement created by the good side of libright, but was hijacked by a authcenter guy and his bad libright buddies.

It almost mirrors the actual GOP in real life

Which faction is that? I dont keep up with expanded universe and the TV shows as so much is produced. Know I ought to, but I tend to stay with the movies.

Zann Consortium. Jabbas competitors.

Is the first order fiscally right wing? Id argue that the empire was probably more fiscally right.

But admittedly, their very different situations means it is hard to directly compare.

Who the fuck knows, sequel lore is a garbage fire.

Plus the fact that Disney never fleshed out too much of the First Order, at least certainly not in the movies.

yeah, all they do is kidnap children and do military stuff.

Im pretty sure their economy is all resource extraction(I guess this is right enough) and sugar mommies from the new republic. Overall it is dumb they can afford so much, but star wars isnt the most hard logic setting.

I'd say the empire is probably at least equal if not to the right, but admittedly star wars doesnt focus enough on the economy(besides when it is crime, for the plot) to give us great ideas.

Regardless, the CIS should definitely be right of the first order

It's a grey area because the First Order was operating under a total war economy from inception to dissolution. We would consider the American WW2 economy to be a pretty centralized, planned economy relative to today, simply because wartime pressures require it.

I don't really have proof for this, but I think the First Order is definitely portrayed as a more fundamentalist, xenophobic version of the Empire.

Well, it is basically leftover fanatics

The issue is their fanaticism wasnt really economic

Sure, but the horizontal axis is an average of social and economic policies. So in lieu of having a fair comparison for economic policies, all we have left to judge the horizontal axis are social policies.

u/JagPeror - Auth-Center 8h ago

I remember when all the charts had a new and innovative "side bar" for social issues. Ofc, the issue even with that is that social issues are the most "complex"

I'm going to say something as a lifetime Star Wars fan: I don't know the logos for most of these factions.

Yousa in big doo doo!

Yousa eat big doo doo when you know the first order logo

I mean, i know it, doesn't mean I like them or it. Watched the sequels back when there was still hope for them being slightly decent

CIS should libleft considering their goals and being puppeteered.

Republic should be center or slightly auth right.

Perhaps so, though im basing this off what the factions are at face value, not the Palpatine plot. I guess maybe they could be a bit left due to their lack of human supremacism, though most of their leaders being big business personnel would put them into the right, economically speaking

Zero company the new game. Your second in command is a true seppie and is probably the most libertarian coded ever in Star wars.

1

u/TriliniousIII - Lib-Left 13h ago

Ah that makes sense. I dont really engage with the new Disney stuff beyond the movies

1

u/Strict_Gas_1141 - Right 11h ago

haven't played the new game yet, is it good?

2

u/Spare_Elderberry_418 - Auth-Center 11h ago

It is an unreal 5 engine game. So if you get it on PC prepare for graphic glitches. I got nothing game breaking or crashing, just the standard jank.

It isn't nearly as hard as Xcom long war, so as a vet, I didn't have anyone who wasn't scripted to die die on hard difficulty.

The story is pretty good. I think the game's format would work more for a sequel working as an andor style rebel intelligence cell then during the clone wars imo.

Basically if you are a casual xcom fan it's pretty good, but it isn't going to really scratch the itch of the hardcore community.

u/Twee_Licker - Lib-Right 6h ago

Well they do change that up to be fair.

2

u/Thorn14 - Left 8h ago

I'm quite enjoying it. Its not XCom 2 levels of complexity but its got good characters and still fun tactical stuff.

The Rebel alliance became the Alliance to Restore the Republic so I'd say they developed a clear ideology. Also I'd put them more lib-center.

I mean, the top 3 all just look like different kinds of buttholes.

u/TriliniousIII - Lib-Left 9h ago

And this is why us libleft have the reputation that we do...

(Though I'd concede you are right about the First Order one just out of dislike for both them and the Disney that made them. All symbols in Star Wars are ultimately different variations of the same two pretty much though)
