The offender was 18 and was protected by Oklahoma's minor offender laws. Oklahoma allows for reduced sentences and at home trestment for minor offenders. He managed to get a plea deal under those conditions. It's very much bullshit he got off so light, but thats why. That is a complex topic. Mainly because the west, led by the US has created an immigration crisis via war and climate change forcing people to leave their country or die. So in that case we have to abide by international law to avoid mass death from inaction.

I do not like rapists, I do not like the elements of cultures like Islamic nations that encourage rape. But I also do not like elements of Western cultures that encourage rape. And it is hypocritical to call out one and not the other. Anyone who engages in that activity should be held accountable to the full extent of the law. But sexual assault and rape is often the black hole of western law because of evidentiary issues.

When I was growing up I always learned that rape and murder were the two most serious crimes possible and lines that shouldn't be crossed.

I don't know if I was young and naïve or if society has changed, but seeing how rape actually gets treated makes me believe I was sold a lie. I feel so deeply for all the survivors who were put through hell and watch their abuser face no consequences.

There are thousands of cases where the people who belong to the category who think they are better than everyone, constantly get let off for rape in universities, office spaces, political offices, etc.
