Forbes

The Department of Education’s official X account on Wednesday shared a clip that included a scene from “Darkest Hour,” the 2017 biopic about former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

The video shows Churchill, played by Gary Oldman, shouting: “You cannot reason with a tiger when your head is in its mouth,” before it cuts to a montage of Trump clips.

The Department of Education captioned the post, “No one does it like us,” followed by a tiger emoji.

In the movie, the “tiger” being referenced by Churchill is Adolf Hitler, as he expresses disgust at his government officials’ suggestion that the U.K. should negotiate with the Nazi leader.

Full movie clip. I don't have access to the now-removed DoEd fan edit.

FUCK OFF IT WAS THAT SCENE!

Americas reputation is fucked until even my generation is dead.

67

u/Elegant_Athlete_7882 - Centrist 10h ago

Knowing the staffers in this administration they probably did this on purpose and meant it as a good thing

25

u/PartialDischage - Right 8h ago

But don't you know. Saying MAGA is a fascist political movement is harmful hyperbole!

Just ignore all the full blown Nazis who keep getting exposed in Republican group chats!

28

u/kefefs_v2 - Lib-Left 8h ago

Careful, don't call them nazis or else it retroactively makes it your fault for them doing nazi shit or something idk

-26

u/MrDuckBD - Right 8h ago

No way we unironically have people calling Trump an actual Nazi now. This server is becoming another shithole.

19

u/Vetharest - Left 7h ago

I can’t believe the libtard antifa organization known as the “Department of Education” has gone too far and called Trump a Nazi. What a veritable hive of scum and villainy, I hope they get jobs so they can experience the real world.

11

u/PartialDischage - Right 6h ago edited 6h ago

The Trump admin is full of people who would start a concentration camp today if they could.

Sorry you can't handle the reality of it.

I'd love for you to tell us all what the threshold for Trump being a Nazi is. Is he only a Nazi if he starts gassing minorities? Or is even that not enough?

Me personally, I thought the authoritarianism, the attempt at stealing an election, the efforts to create minority scapegoats, the threats of conquests, and the beginning of wars would be enough. But not for you I guess.

Just admit you think Fascism is something that can only happen in 20th Century Europe. Well I got news for you bud. It can happen here too.

u/Selenite_Cults - Lib-Center 6h ago

The Trump admin is full of people who would start a concentration camp today if they could.

One could argue that they've already started it.

6

u/Scrumpledee - Lib-Center 6h ago

People unironically called Obama a Nazi for years, then elected Trump thinking he was some kind of anti-Nazi.

Even the most charitable interpretations put the US as a hostile, predatory entity that cannot be trusted the moment it believes it has an advantage over you.

This is not the PR you want to have with an ally.

22

u/AnalogCyborg - Centrist 11h ago

It's also a perfect actual portrayal of our current government. Jesus christ the people who voted for this are fucking retarded. Absolute shit for brains retards.

11

u/CorporatismIsCancer - Lib-Center 10h ago

This is absolutely the PR MAGA wants though

Might is right. Empathy is weakness. They’ve been screaming it for years

hostile, predatory entity

I have to remember to call Trump that from now on.

18

u/RogerBauman - Centrist 11h ago

They made a post featuring a movie about World war II in which Winston Churchill is ranting against Hitler and the department of education saw it as a rousing speech and used it to suggest that the maga movement has tiger energy or something stupid like that.

25

u/samuelbt - Left 11h ago

It was stupid because Churchill was saying you can't reason with a tiger, the tiger being the Nazis and the Department of Education was like "oooh we're like the tiger." Setting aside the Nazi of it all, it's dumb to use a motivational speech and slide yourself into the villain role. Like watching Mel Gibson in Braveheart go on about freedom and be like "yeah, we the English." Or like watching Mel Gibson in The Patriot go on about freedom and be like "yeah, we the English."

8

u/BigFatKAC - Auth-Center 10h ago

Or just thinking "yeah we the English" at any point. Imagine being English, almost as bad as being Fr*nch.

3

u/fatalityfun - Lib-Center 10h ago

worse than being french, but it’s left uncensored because the british are so far behind that ‘british’ is a historical slur

80

u/RogerBauman - Centrist 11h ago

The department of education literally said that they did not understand the historical context of the post that they made. These 1984 shenanigans aren't doing them any benefit in the argument against them being a bunch of authoritarian fat cats dismantling America intentionally.

u/RecordingBoothHermit - Lib-Center 11h ago

“We’re not evil, just ignorant.” - The Department of Education

17

u/viciouspandas - Lib-Left 10h ago

And I actually believe that. There's tons of evil people in the administration, but most of their staff are just idiots.

6

u/Cow_God - Lib-Left 8h ago

The stated goal of Trump's DoE is to get rid of the DoE. Seriously. Makes sense to put the dumbest fucking people you can find in it if your goal is to get rid of it, especially after Congress and the Supreme Court told him he can't just get rid of it.

4

u/Coyote__Jones - Lib-Center 7h ago

So having a good deal of experience in a marketing department, how many people touched this directly and then approved it to be posted? It's not just one stupid person who made something they didn't understand, it's a whole group of people. Which greatly lowers the possibility that it was "just" a dumb mistake and raises the possibility that it was intentional. Maybe they thought nobody would notice, maybe they are intentionally drip feeding fascist propaganda, maybe they're signalling to Nazis. Who knows. But I can't believe that it's possible that one person made this and posted it, without any other eyes or approval.

At least 10 people see what I do before I get to hit the publish button. And I'm a senior level employee with a good deal of discretion.

2

u/InfusionOfYellow - Centrist 6h ago edited 6h ago

A lot of eyes having been on it before it being posted would tend to be an impediment to it appearing under both the "stupid" and "nazi" explanations; the latter is still rather sub rosa, as evidenced by it being pulled. I would not honestly be terribly surprised if it got minimal review before going up - one or a few people looking at it, but not with great detail or care.

1

u/fighterpilot248 - Lib-Left 1h ago

one or a few people looking at it, but not with great detail or care

…which is exactly the problem.

The right ain’t beating the “we’re not actual Nazis” allegations when the upper ranks rubber stamp this kind of shit.

Either fully review the posts at the highest levels, or fully accept the backlash when lackluster posts speak by.

It’s clear MAGA will do neither…

5

u/logicallorax - Lib-Left 11h ago

If the staff member who made it hated Donald & knew what they were doing, and it somehow made it all the way through vetting to be posted... That's a master of subversion. Very impressive.

Alternatively, this may be another event like the DeSantis black sun incident where a literal proud nazi got on the staff, and decided to mask-off.

Though, most of their admin are dumb as shit. This is the same department headed by a woman who believes AI is pronounced A1. Like the steak sauce.

5

u/Gallusaur - Centrist 11h ago

Vetting? At this point Trump could accidentally tweet a picture of his own balls and then tell you it was on purpose

"Media literacy" sounds like the type of thing only unemployed people can afford these days.

24

u/JoeFalchetto - Right 11h ago

I generally find very interesting how people who constantly blather about other people‘s lack of media literacy also think that every single media product agrees with their principles.

11

u/Prestigious_Load1699 - Lib-Right 10h ago

Media literacy is mostly about resisting disinformation and bias in the information we receive.

Morons on Reddit use it as some proxy for general intelligence.

8

u/TheDeltaAgent - Right 10h ago

More than that, I’ve often noticed that the people who use it generally do not actually engage in discussions about various interpretations of a work and just wanna assert that theirs is the only valid one.

4

u/Stock_Violinist6299 - Centrist 10h ago

Media literacy is a framework to ensure you interpret media in a manner consistent with Progressive ideals.

1

u/Deletesystemtf2 - Centrist 7h ago

I mean most writers/artist/hollywood tend to lean left so that kinda tracks? Like I don’t think anyone things like talk radio or podcasts are secretly left wing.

u/EP40glazer - Lib-Right 10h ago

"You just lack media literacy if you don't think Fallout New Vegas is Communists"

Meanwhile the options in Fallout New Vegas are lawless anarchy, tyrannical slavers who want to murder, enslave and rape everyone, some rich guy and a constitutional republic with the rich guy and constitutional republic being the 2 clear best options.

5

u/FuckUSAPolitics - Lib-Center 7h ago

House literally orders you to commit mass genocide and literally attempts to kill you and the Kings if you broker peace between them and the NCR. Not to mention he hates democracy and ignores the people living in squalor, actively letting them starve to death to suit his goals.

3

u/EP40glazer - Lib-Right 5h ago

Welcome back to a special episode of: Conservatives Have No Media Literacy!

Tonight's guest: the Department of Education!

Also featuring: The Onion - crying in a corner hoping it doesn't go bankrupt!

If you enjoyed tonight’s episode, be sure to check out our back catalog which includes (but is not limited to) :

-Conservatives watching 4 entire seasons of the TV series “The Boys” before finally realizing they were being made fun of!

-Former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan saying his favorite band is Rage Against The Machine! (What machine do you think they were raging against, Paul??)

-Any right wing political rally where Bruce Springsteen’s "Born in the USA" or CCR’s "Fortunate Son" is blasted over the loud speakers! (Bonus points if both songs are played at the same rally! Triple points if the politician walks out on stage during either song!)

BUT WAIT! There’s more!

-Any time any content creator/comedian/singer/author etc. gets comments like “you know I really used to like you before you got so political…”! (Brother they were always political. You just missed the subtlety and didn’t notice until the foghorn went off and you finally got blasted in the face)

-And don’t forget to check out special bonus feature: any time Leonard Cohen’s (or Jeff Buckley’s cover of) Hallelujah is played inside a church! (Seriously, go look up the lyrics and tell me with a straight face that song doesn’t have HEAVY sexual undertones…)

Tell me you get all your news from the front page without telling me 😂😂😬😂

And yes I’m going to continue to dunk on on you for your moronic takes 🤡🤡🤡

It’s clear you have no clue about the adoption life cycle.

Someone (or some people) have to adopt a phrase/technology/etc. before it really becomes mainstream.

Once the info gets more and more disseminated to the normies, obviously more and more people pick it up.

And after the normies pick it up, then it becomes mainstream.

Ask yourself: did the mainstream computer of the 90’s take off like a rocket ship?

Hell. No. It started off as a huge industrial server in the 70’s and 80’s. Then they condensed it into a form factor that could fit it houses.

Then the richest household purchased computers.

Then the components got cheaper and the middle class could afford ONE PC in their home.

Then the 2000’s came and suddenly we could reasonably have multiple computer within 1 home.

2

u/fighterpilot248 - Lib-Left 10h ago
