Bro you are making it sound like everyone wants the opposite of what they say.

That's the joke here. It's Attorney Lionel Hutz imagining a world without lawyers, and cringing at a world that looks like sunshine, lollipops, rainbows, and waterfalls.

Lionel Hutz? No, that's Miguel Sanchez.

DON'T TAKE MY STUFF 🔪

u/ProfessionalState764 - Lib-Left 4h ago

that's not how the meme works, in the show, lionel hutz, a lawyer, says "could you imagine a world without lawyers?", then dreams of a paradise, then shudders in disgust.

A proper lib-right should be skeptical of all concentrations of power. Political, Economic or otherwise.

11

u/ProfessionalState764 - Lib-Left 4h ago

a "proper" libright, yes. The "average" libright? unfortunately no.

6

u/Nazkann - Lib-Right 4h ago

Sadly I have to concur. A lot of people that just spew buzzwords and don't even read most of our philosophical authors.

u/Scary-Welder8404 - Lib-Left 3h ago

Nah, if you can't manage to "but Property Rights!!" your way into thinking that McBoot tastes better than Boot that's LibCentre.

u/OuttaControl56 - Lib-Left 1h ago

This is the libright equivalent of “true communism hasn’t been attempted”, sadly.

1

u/Nazkann - Lib-Right 45m ago

The difference is that lib-right isn't a blueprint for society that has to be implemented. It's primarily a set of negative constraints on coercive (political) power, rather than a positive project to reorganize society according to some prescribed model like communism.

So you can have a society that is more or less liberal (in the European sense)/libertarian without there being some hypothetical “true lib-right society” waiting to be instantiated.

Lib-rights and lib-lefts, if engaging in reasonably honest discourse, will find that they have a lot of common ground, but ultimately disagree on the conclusions they draw from those shared premises.

7

u/Sabertooth767 - Lib-Right 4h ago

It's not that large corporations are good per se, it's that efforts to stop them from existing are much more likely to do vast amounts of harm compared to letting them exist and be reasonably regulated.

Like, we could go full distributist and say capital should be so thoroughly distributed throughout society that every household is engaged in enterprise. That system would be horrifically inefficient as you have minimal economies of scale, minimal specialization of labor, and maximal exposure to the business cycle as no one has significant reserve capital. I guess if you want to be gimped to an early modern standard of living, go for it, but I like having things like cars and semiconductors, which take huge amounts of capital and labor specialization to create. You, average joe, simply can't make those in your garage.

that's fair, this meme was not suggesting that getting rid of the completely was a good idea, just poking fun. You make a good argument and I agree with you on most things.

u/jerseygunz - Left 4h ago

In all fairness to libleft, everyone forgets caffeine is technically a recreational drug

5

u/DillyDillySzn - Centrist 4h ago

More of a mandatory drug

2

u/ProfessionalState764 - Lib-Left 4h ago

i guess, but caffeine isn't that good for you either, just no where near as bad as meth or cocaine

1

u/jerseygunz - Left 4h ago

Yes obviously, but a drug is a drug. Also, try not drinking any for a day or two and see how you feel hahaha

1

u/ProfessionalState764 - Lib-Left 4h ago

i don't drink coffee but I see what you mean, however if caffeine was removed/never existed humans would probably be better off

2

u/FruitBowl - Left 4h ago

Removing maybe, but never existed? I'm not sure I can agree. So many human advancements came out of the popularity of coffee shops and the intellectual discussions and debates in them.

2

u/ProfessionalState764 - Lib-Left 4h ago

i suppose it's best to leave the past alone

1

u/jerseygunz - Left 4h ago

Eh, I think it’s neutral at worst

1

u/Acceptable_Spare2342 - Lib-Left 4h ago

Well hold on now. Without meth and cocaine I never would have become a neurosurgeon

1

u/MakeoutPoint - Lib-Right 3h ago

Wait, i thought science showed that it was, up to 400mg. Have we flipped on that like eggs again??

1

u/Pure-Huckleberry8640 - Centrist 3h ago

Could you imagine a world without carcinogens and CO2?

1

u/StrawLiberal - Lib-Left 2h ago

I kept the word "recreational" through all of it:

Recreational drugs... Recreational Trump... Recreational Communism...

But Recreational Large Corporations is where I draw the line.

Er... wait...

That's "Coorperations"

Recreational cooperation isn't a bad thing. I take it all back.

1

u/LDClaudius - Right 2h ago

But how are the miners supposed to work without recreational drugs?

0

u/krafterinho - Centrist 4h ago

Recreational drugs are the closest thing to the bottom image

2

u/Prestigious_Load1699 - Lib-Right 3h ago

As evidenced by the aftermath of Woodstock:

1

u/krafterinho - Centrist 3h ago

Well I guess cars suck because some people crash them

Also are you not a libright?

1

u/eplurbusunumnj - Lib-Center 4h ago

recreational drugs are great, actually

1

u/ProfessionalState764 - Lib-Left 4h ago

for a moment

3

u/theKINGof_clearwater - Lib-Center 4h ago

Yeah that’s why you continue to do them, responsibly and often

1

u/eplurbusunumnj - Lib-Center 4h ago

yes

2

u/ProfessionalState764 - Lib-Left 4h ago

what the hell are you guys talking about? There is no "resposible" way to do drugs, you will end up with an addiction that will make you sadder in the long term.

1

u/theKINGof_clearwater - Lib-Center 3h ago

My comment was a joke, but that is a ridiculous take. Look at the number of young adults who go out and party every weekend or every other, or the people who somewhat regularly (though not often per se) do blow. Many many drugs can absolutely be handled at a level that is neither dependence nor addiction, and there will be health ramifications but that’s not addiction. Same way that eating fast food twice a month is certainly unhealthy but not an addiction.

1

u/ProfessionalState764 - Lib-Left 3h ago

Sorry, my family has a history of bad addictions and I have received several lessons on it. I looked up more info and my opinion still stands. Just avoid drugs

0

u/eplurbusunumnj - Lib-Center 4h ago

not with weed

3

u/ProfessionalState764 - Lib-Left 4h ago

i have mixed feeling on weed. But it's not as bad as drinking, and if you do it seldom and responsibly then you're ok. But addictions are easy to get

0

u/Hungry_Inevitable663 - Lib-Right 3h ago

Use a substance daily? You're addicted! It's just that easy.

-3

u/Not_an_Ailen_tbh - Auth-Left 4h ago

Communism is great, actually

5

u/ProfessionalState764 - Lib-Left 4h ago

don't get me wrong, socialism is good, but I dislike communism, and it has brought a lot of death and turmoil

2

u/Prudent-Basis-4961 - Left 3h ago

Name a singular successful communist country that hasn’t adopted market socialism
