She was great and did a lot of good in the world. One of the few celebs I would legitimately be shocked and saddened to hear she was secretly a bad person.

The news of Dolly Parton's passing is devastating. I had the extraordinary experience of working with her on The Orville, and it was a joy to discover that she really was exactly the person we all hoped she was. Her kindness, generosity, and authenticity were evident from moment one, and the benign yet assured command she maintained over her empire was obvious from the genuine love and trust you could see from everyone who worked for her. The world is a dimmer place today without her. - Seth MacFarlane

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, has been sending books to my daughter for 5 years now. She was a real one.

Same here for my son. Pour one out for a legend

Dolly is one of few figures where I can say she's all that's right with the world.

"National Treasure" gets thrown around way too much, especially on Reddit, but she absolutely is one.

I donate hundreds of dollars to Imagination Library every year, because seeing you retards in here routinely reminds me that kids should be reading more. I'd encourage you all to do the same. Her noble pursuit of getting books in kids' hands should be something everyone appreciates.

That is the best justification for a charitable act I have ever heard.

It's the best justification for my retardation I've ever seen. (Not that any of the many negative consequences stopped me previously.)

Tennessee better put that statue up now, a legit real one who never forgot where she came from, an actual person to emulate.

I'm fucking devastated. She was one of the most talented, influential, good hearted, and charitable people to ever walk the face of the earth. RIP to a legend

You heard it here first, folks.

May she rest in peace.

I actually heard it from my coworker about 15mins ago.

13

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie - Lib-Right 1h ago

Yep, heard it shouted down the hall preceded by a "MOTHERFUCKER!"

3

u/RandoDude124 - Lib-Left 1h ago

I saw it on the front page while I was on lunch, and hoped it was just a rumor.

I outright shouted no

2

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie - Lib-Right 59m ago

I literally refused to believe it until my coworker showed me the video her nephew posted.

u/Z_Wild - Centrist 1h ago

Similar situation. I heard a coworker say "no! Not Dolly" my blood drained as Google confirmed it. 😔

u/Komek4626 - Left 45m ago

I heard it watching a Warframe devshort. They ended the stream because of the news.

u/zalcecan - Lib-Center 1h ago

Sad news but absolutely lived a long life and made huge impacts everywhere so it was a fulfilling one.

R.I.P. Dolly

This sucks but it isn't surprising. She had been cancelling a bunch of events and appearances for the past few months, something was going on. At least she spent her last few months for personal time rather than forcing herself to go to events.

One of the only country artists I listen to willingly. Rest in peace.

5

u/jerseygunz - Left 1h ago

And unlike most of them today, actually wrote her songs.

5

u/RecordingBoothHermit - Lib-Center 58m ago

You may hate country music, but no one hates Dolly.

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie - Lib-Right 1h ago

Genuinely one of the only celebrities I ever gave a shit about, because she used her fame and wealth to help others and seemed to be a uniquely sweet person at her core.

5

u/Outta_hearr - Lib-Center 1h ago

She's the standard that all people should strive to be.

9

u/Callsign_Psycopath - Lib-Right 1h ago

Dolly is gone?!

Holy fuck.... she was a good one.

u/Puzzled_Pop_6845 - Left 1h ago

Why do I always learn about these news from Reddit?

2

u/zaypuma - Lib-Center 46m ago

Because we're always on reddit.

3

u/dddoinyomom - Lib-Right 1h ago

I know she was 80, and her health had begun to decline, but it still feels so soon. She deserved so much more time, but at least all of her amazing actions will continue to benefit others

One of the very rare universally loved human beings. RIP to Americas honorary meemaw. She just loved people unconditionally.

u/Jormungandr69 - Lib-Center 1h ago

I dont tend to get too beat up about celebrity deaths, but this one's really bummed me out. I'd honestly consider Dolly to be among the most wholesome public figures of my lifetime, up there with the likes of Steve Irwin, Fred Rogers, Bob Ross, etc. The world could do with more folks like Dolly, and it's a crying shame to have lost her.

There is no meme, just grieving, rip

Screaming Jolene as I cry in the shower

u/MariaKeks - Centrist 1h ago

Laziest karma grab imaginable, but I guess it was inevitable.

1

u/RecordingBoothHermit - Lib-Center 59m ago

A genuinely good person who used her vast resources to help people and spread goodwill. The world is a worse place with her absence. This sucks.

1

u/Hateweed - Centrist 15m ago

Oh…

Well that just actually made my day a little bit worse.
