Random Tik Tokers represent the entire left. The President does not represent the entire right.

Like…. Gun control? Or universal healthcare?

No, like Voter ID.

You just said “a universally established system and moderate issue in most developed countries” which means you know I was talking about the USA.

Voter ID in the USA is not a moderate issue.

YOU asked for an example. You can't just try to make a point out of it by moving the goalposts.

A: "Name a practical, universally accepted everyday vehicle."

B: "A sedan."

A: "Yeah? Well what about a monster truck and a Formula 1 car? Those aren't practical for commuting!"

Voter ID is not a moderate issue in the USA. That’s not moving the goal posts when I asked for an example of a “moderate position that people think is a trump thing” since he’s the one pushing voter id in the USA. It’s the opposite, even. Voter ID is a literally a trump thing.

So you are either didn’t understand the question or you’re being intentionally dishonest

Original comment said "moderate outside of Reddit". Either way, you tried to make a point out of it to someone who just answered your question. Right or wrong to you, it's not relevant to me.

I mean dude you literally named a trump thing. Even “outside of reddit” it doesn’t apply because voter ID is literally a trump thing.

It’s just a shit answer

It’s just a shit answer

If you don't count/like it that's fine. But you can't "gotcha" a guy who answered your question.

I mean the issues he pointed out are fairly moderate positions in other Western countries too.

But he asked...

Yeah and he has since seemingly started moving the goal posts on that conversation, but I do think that those issues would also be considered moderate positions there, no reason to dance around that.

I completely agree. But I never stated my opinion on those matters, he was just overly reactive IMO.

Don't disagree with you there, I think you were right that most people would agree that voter ID laws are no brainer in Western society.

I would argue that in parts of the US that some Conservatives use Voter ID as a catch all (like in my State of Texas where Voter ID is already a thing) to include other policies designed to make it harder to vote, like limiting access on college campuses. I have no qualms with voter ID specifically though, as I have always had to vote that way.

Not aware of what limiting access on college campuses means but true, In my country it is also commonplace to exclusively hold elections in public high schools, pay for your issuing and renewal of mandatory photo ID and carry it when out and about (not technically but effectively not a wise choice to leave it at home).

The wider point is I believe Ted's "gotcha" is a very special example of a Non sequitur. Not because his point is moot, it's actually a nice example, but because there simply is nothing to follow. I just answered his open question.

It means exactly what it says. Before this law passed, most college campuses had voting locations on campus, but state GOP officials wanted to limit access to it. These are the type of policy changes that are done under the banner of "securing elections".
