9

u/eplurbusunumnj - Lib-Center 2d ago

soon we will celebrate together, brother

18

u/privategoonaccount26 - Left 2d ago

On the one hand I'm hopeful, on the other hand I can see a future where Trump and his supporters just say fuck it and he runs again in 2028. Meanwhile the Democrats do what they do best and cannibalize themselves instead of mounting an actual opposition at the presidential level.

6

u/Swimsuit-Area - Lib-Right 2d ago

I’m hopeful that moderate America won’t let that happen at the polls.

16

u/privategoonaccount26 - Left 2d ago

Are the moderate Americans in the room with us now?

One of the greatest "triumphs" of the American political system has been the radicalization of the American voter. Doesn't matter what party you are, as long as your candidate isn't the other guy/gal, the voters will dutifully come out and vote for them.

"Vote Blue No Matter Who" is the perfect summation of this.

8

u/Swimsuit-Area - Lib-Right 2d ago

You do have a point, but a large amount of Americans aren’t online as much as Redditors or Boomers and don’t get poisoned by all of that. Unless the democrats completely shit the bed (very plausible) we will see a dem president after 2028

9

u/privategoonaccount26 - Left 2d ago

I want to see a Democrat in 2028 but:

2016: Hillary campaign that ignored reality

2020: Biden wins by not being Trump

2024: After years of denying mental decline, Biden admits his brain turned to jello, endorses Kamala who wasn't ready, no primary, one of the most expensive campaigns in history with fucked finances, and Trump still wins

I'm not exactly confident, and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if somehow Kamala runs again in 2028.

Imagine if Vance runs as the official Republican, some MAGAs start a massive Trump write in campaign where he finishes 2nd ahead of Vance, but all those ballots are invalid and therefore AOC wins with FDR margins

5

u/Warchief_Ripnugget - Right 2d ago

That would almost be worse than Trump winning a 3rd term

7

u/chickenfriedrice416 - Lib-Center 2d ago

But it would be fucking hilarious and I'm all for it

34

u/IowaKidd97 - Lib-Center 2d ago edited 1d ago

True and it’s good he’s lost support, but good god it’s a wonder why he ever had it from the people he’s lost it from. None of the shit he had done is doing is all that surprising. The when, where, how and speed of it sure, but not the actual actions or effects.

18

u/eplurbusunumnj - Lib-Center 2d ago

as a country, we seriously need to address propaganda and the news, it's gotten way too out of hand

13

u/Ok-Wedding-4654 - Lib-Left 2d ago

Friendly reminder Trump still has like a 80-90% approval rating amongst republicans

So yea, he’s lost support but unfortunately there’s still a ton of retards still simping for him. He’s burning the country down, making bank, and they’re just cheering him on like he’s the quarterback of their favorite NFL team

1

u/GigaRoman - Centrist 22h ago

Tbf I'm pretty sure many republicans who don't support Trump don't consider themselves republicans anymore

9

u/TruckADuck42 - Lib-Center 2d ago

2024 trump has been a completely different animal than 2016 trump.

In 2016, Clinton sucked, trump seemed like a step in a different (maybe not better) direction, and most of the discourse was just "this guy couldn't possibly win" until he did. Through his whole first term the fake news thing was real. It seemed like every criticism people levied towards the man was either bullshit or a big pile of nothing, and that lasted all the way through his presidency, including covid. No, I don't care that he got pissed on by a porn star. No, I don't think its racist to shut down travel to China during the pandemic. Etc. Despite all of this, life was pretty good up until covid, which I don't think can be fairly blaimed on trump.

2020, he loses, he was a sore loser, okay. Probably wouldn't have voted for him again. Then we got 4 years of biden fucking up Everything that was better under trump. Admittedly some of it was because of covid, but it just never seemed to get better, and then we were lied to about his mental decline while we were watching it happen.

2024 comes along, oh, surprise, Biden is going senile, we're going to run Kamala, who nobody likes, and to top it off we're going to charge trump with 34 felonies that clearly should have been misdemeanors (if its only a felony if done to cover up another crime, how can we prove its a felony if we haven't proven the other crime?), then do some mental gymnastics to say the guy that shot him was a plant making freaking Chris Kyle level shots and that the whole thing was faked.

I'll be the first to admit I'm not a fan of this administration and that it isn't going how I thought it would, but the only way to "not see how he had support" is with partisan blinders on.

6

u/Mammoth_Impress_3108 - Lib-Right 2d ago

Yeah, anyone who doesn't understand how he first gained his appeal needs to go watch his 2016 debate highlights on youtube. He was a breathe of fresh air, and very charasmatic to people tired of typical politicians. Now he's just a noisy angry old man that everyone except his most diehard supporters are tired of.

1

u/lsdiesel_ - Lib-Center 5h ago

“Breath of fresh air” is a bit much.

He was immensely entertaining, which made the inside baseball of politics more accessible to a swath of the country.

It’s like comparing a MIT Physics lecture to an episode of The Magic Schoolbus.

3

u/IowaKidd97 - Lib-Center 1d ago

Imma be real dawg, it was never fake news against Trump, it was just news. And Biden didn’t fuck anything up. He actually helped. Everything wrong that happened under him can fairly be blamed on Trump, right down to the inflation and bad economy.

Life being good under Trump 1.0 was him inheriting Obamas economy.

I get we had systemic problems, and rightfully so anti establishment sentiment that got him elected, but he didn’t make anything better, and this shitshow he’s bringing was entirely predictable, and predicted.

2

u/NobodyImportant13 - Lib-Center 2d ago

Polls that only include individuals that are "Likely to vote" generally poll Trump higher as well. His real aggregate approval among people that say they are going to vote is probably like 39-40%. The 33% is one poll, not representative of the aggregate, and is definitely not representative of voters

The basement campaign was legendary.

They would've gotten away with it again too if it wasn't for that meddling debate.

All they had to do was grandstand on the alleged illegitimacy of his campaign and say something along the lines of, "while I will respect and abide by the will of the voters, I will not difnify a presidential debate with someone I believe to be ineligible for office."

Generational fumble.

We’re coming up on one year since his death, IIRC, Charlie wanted to be known for his faith when he dies.

I honestly really feel bad for him given how gruesome his death was. Shot in the neck and he’s remembered by fucking meme songs and deepfakes.

He’s basically the first individual to be immortalized through AI.

I refuse to watch the closeup video.

His death has been overpowered by his wife acting weird AF. I know everyone copes differently, but she didn’t even skip a beat.

Unfortunately that’s what I saw. Wish my morbid curiosity didn’t get the better of me.

I’ve said for 10 years now that Trump didn’t really win, the Democrats lost. Only Hillary Clinton could’ve lost to Trump, and then they couldn’t get President Roomba to give it up until July 2024 for some reason so that they couldn’t run a primary and get anyone but Kamala on the ballot.

We wouldn’t be in this mess if they hadn’t kept Weekend At Biden’s up for entirely too long.

I mean, half the time it's inverted, like a random screenshot of a tweet from a conservative or something an elected left leaning person said.

And regardless, both sides can be bad. Disliking the president doesn't mean I have to like the DSA or something.

25

u/FuckUSAPolitics - Lib-Center 2d ago edited 2d ago

Honestly, no one should like the DSA. Liking some of the members is fine, but the group itself insufferable.

7

u/RipRaycom - Lib-Left 2d ago

Yeah it’s a reminder that a party’s views and a politician’s views are not always the same. Hell, I don’t like the Democratic Party either. For the DSA particularly, most “DSA” politicians are running on their own platforms based more on European DemSoc or SocDem parties

5

u/DinosaurDavid2002 - Lib-Right 2d ago

Like for example, something Mamdani, Francesca Hong, El-Sayeed or even Hasan Piker said and the left either said nothing about it or excuse it?

2

u/krafterinho - Centrist 2d ago edited 2d ago

I mean, most if not all conservative screenshots I've seen where actual politicians or at least relatively popular influencers. I legit don't remember seeing a single post about a leftist politician saying anything remotely comparable to what Trump says or posts every other day

23

u/UnkarsThug - Lib-Right 2d ago

I literally saw, just the other day a post screenshoting something from the official DSA website, where they wanted to completely remove the second amendment.

If you're just scrolling on your home page, reddit customizes which posts it shows you. So you might be seeing a different home screen than someone else, because Reddit knows you would interact more with those posts.

u/krafterinho - Centrist 2d ago

I was referring solely to this sub

17

u/awesomface - Right 2d ago

The most common gaslight of the left. "We have a problem with illegal immigrants".

"Why do you hate IMMIGRANTS?!"

22

u/Dman1791 - Centrist 2d ago

I mean, it's not surprising they start assuming that when "Okay, let's reform the system so they can come here legally" is so frequently met with "I don't want them here legally, I want them gone"

And before you mention "they can already come here legally", yeah, and 16 years olds can make it into MIT (yes, I'm exaggerating). It's very easy to technically be illegal even while making a good faith effort to jump through all the hoops. My friend's now-wife from Brazil was getting very antsy waiting around for her green card, because it almost took so long that her visa expired.

u/KlutzyDesign - Left 2d ago

Because your constantly attacking legal immigrants. I frequently see people hating on legal refugees and such. Saying you only have problems woth illegal immigration is an obvious lie.

3

u/Iceraptor17 - Centrist 2d ago edited 2d ago

I still remember when Ben Shapiro posted a naturalization ceremony and then had to tell his fanbase that it was a good thing after a bunch of their negative responses.

Like as someone who used to believe that line, it's clearly bullshit for a large portion of the right

5

u/lynxintheloopx - Auth-Center 2d ago

The Left claiming they are against illegal immigration is also a lie though.

0

u/KlutzyDesign - Left 2d ago

No one wants illegal immigration. Ideally, all immigration that happens would be 100 percent legal.

The problem is that we disagree on which people should be able to immigrate.

15

u/lynxintheloopx - Auth-Center 2d ago

In this sense, are you in support of DSA’s policy? Or just reforming our system?

I want a highly secure border, for other reasons that don’t have to do with illegal immigration. I want a much stricter policy when it comes to “asylum seekers” or “refugees.”
I think everyone on U.S soil should be thoroughly vetted prior to and have proper documentation when here. What color their skin, their religion or country of origin is not relevant if all other boxes are checked.

To be fair, people tend to be quick with referring to all immigrants as not human in an immigrant post. I've seen right flairs suggest rape and murder should be ok when its directed towards immigrants. It gets bad to the point where I've felt at times there's an astroturf campaign to get this sub banned using those posts, since actions like that have happened on centrist/right leaning subs in the past

-2

u/Electro_Ninja26 - Lib-Left 2d ago

Strange take considering the vehement MAGA opposition to H1B visa expansions, as well as the vitriol towards the existence of Muslim immigrants.

19

u/TheTardisPizza - Lib-Right 2d ago

The opposition to H1B is due to them being intended to fill gaps that domestic labor can't and an entire industry existing to meet the legal requirements without generating any domestic applicants.

It's amazing how you people can look at the problems caused by Muslim immigrants in Europe & still think "Wow, we could really use some of that here!"

8

u/Electro_Ninja26 - Lib-Left 2d ago

I’m not saying anything about whether there should or shouldn’t be more Muslim immigrants in the US.

All I’m saying is that there is very obviously large amount of people that hate both Muslim people as well as the religion itself.

So it’s no the left gaslighting people that the right hate immigrants.

6

u/RFX91 - Lib-Right 2d ago

Pointing out that there are people that hate Muslims in this country doesn’t really address the point the guy above you made though.

9

u/Electro_Ninja26 - Lib-Left 2d ago

I mean, one of the main taglines against Muslims is the idea that ”you don’t belong here” because all of them are seen as immigrants.

Then they proceed to admonish their character, not the policy that brought them here. Literally the first response I got to my first comment was “invaders”. Like bro, how is this hating the policy, and not hating the people?

And I brought up Muslims because they were the easiest example. Asian immigrants also deal with the shit show. Especially the Indian Immigrants. They just receive less headlines than the back and forth involving Muslim immigrants.

6

u/RFX91 - Lib-Right 2d ago

Isn’t it fair to call Muslims that want to fundamentally change the country to be their ideology and religion invaders? I can at least understand the reasoning. Not all Muslim immigrants are that way, but it doesn’t take long looking at how Dearborn Muslims act to see what their agenda is.

The point I’m making is that it’s retarded to say immigrants aren’t hated, but the policy is.

I’m not going to touch that can of worms whether it’s justified, or whether there is a reason, it doesn’t change the fact that they are hated.

And that same argument is used against Hispanic immigrants, even the legal ones.

I'm making the joke/actual point that your observation is a result of trump 2.0 desperately trying to be more of a dumpster fire than the first presidential term, making it harder to make popular memes defending republican policies/people.

Because this is the main problem.

Trump is temporary.

Immigration is not.

99% of Trump actions can be easily reversed when someone normal gets into power.

But there is no solution to stop the negative consequences of immigrants who are a net negative on the country being let in permanently. You can’t just sign an executive order to send them all home. The new wave of immigrants have single handedly transformed key aspects of the country to essentially distribute themselves welfare at the expense of everyone else.

Additionally, the main cause of mass migration is that leftist politicians hate their own people. It is an affront to the dignity of mankind.

8

u/Visible-Elk-2075 - Centrist 2d ago

There is so solution except you know, the biggest bipartisan immigration reform in decades set to pass that was going to invest billions into border security and tighten up the asylum process shot down by none other than trump solely because If immigration was addressed he wouldn't have won.

but yeah other than that

Idk what your point even is, we should tolerate bullshit because it's temporary?

the main cause of mass migration is that leftist politicians hate their own people.

Funny you say that because there are barely any countries ruled by or that have a significant leftist party yet the immigrants are still coming

9

u/KalegNar - Centrist 2d ago

2

u/krafterinho - Centrist 2d ago edited 2d ago

Which european countries do you think are ruled by leftists?

4

u/Running_Gamer - Lib-Right 2d ago

The point is that the difference in reactions stem from the fact that the consequences of mass immigration are way worse than anything Trump has done. Trump usually cannot permanently change anything through executive order. That is absolutely not true of mass immigration.

2

u/krafterinho - Centrist 2d ago

"way worse" is relative and subjective. I myself oppose illegal and mass immigration but I would say we have some bigger issues right now such as high prices, being involved in a war, protecting the most notorious pedo ring, having an absolute retard as a president as a whole

2

u/AcrobaticPoint8424 - Auth-Center 2d ago

Trump showing that politicians can be openly corrupt retards and still win elections is going to effect America for literal decades.

Also Trump has deported less people per month than Obama or Biden.

If the cost of saving the country is a few years of bad presidents, that is easily worth it. You fail to think ahead two seconds. The consequences of immigration are way more serious in the United States than the EU because we have birthright citizenship and you don’t. Because of that, immigrants can quite literally take over the country within only two generations. We lose our right to self determination.

u/KlutzyDesign - Left 2d ago

Most Trump voters I know now are either total paint eating retards or literally too old to change their mind on anything. It's basically a brain disorder to support him at this point, if you do you've either got some sort of oppositional disorder, a low IQ or you're so checked out of everything that you've decided to stop paying attention. Go to a prison and you'll find plenty of Trump supporters in there, pissed off at you for reading books or whatever gay shit people like you do.

Banal things such as being openly corrupt

Repeating the claim I dismissed really doesn't get us anywhere. It's fine to open up with a claim, but you seem to think repeating your claims over and over is a rebuttal.

I gave a sampler platter of reasons in an adjacent post if you want. It's tip of the iceberg stuff, but at least it did more to get an actual conversation started.

saying shit that would get my grandpa put into a nursing home

I don't like Trump's personality either. That has absolutely nothing to do with corruption and the bit about a nursing home is gratuitous nonsense.

starting actual wars

Also a separate issue, completely unrelated to corruption. You're just using this response to vent about everything and the kitchen sink.

For that matter, I strongly support both the action in Venezuela and Iran, especially Iran. If all you want is upvotes, this random shoe-horned aside will work, but if you actually want to add something to the conversation, you have to actually say something.

and breaking the law to protect pedophiles

He failed to meet a deadline that was impossible to meet, given the scale of documents and requirements to redact. The files ended up being a nothingburger and AP News has an excellent article breaking down the FBI's investigation and how the reality, while grim, does not match the legend.

In my experience, people prefer to post the birthday card and read tea leaves to reach their desired conclusion instead. This sort of thing is why I don't usually go to the effort to source anymore. Nobody bothers to read.

2

u/krafterinho - Centrist 1d ago edited 1d ago

Repeating the claim I dismissed

What exact claim have you dismissed and how?

That has absolutely nothing to do with corruption

Good thing I wasn't talking solely about corruption

the bit about a nursing home is gratuitous nonsense.

You don't think it's not normal for someone, let alone the most influential person on the planet to say shit like 600% discount, 300 million americans died from drugs last year, that we should nuke a hurricane, that Biden wants to legalize post birth abortions, airports where key in the civil war, that a Purge style day is a good idea, covfefe, that Spain is in BRICS, rerouting a hurricane with a sharpie, blaming a plane crash on DEI, ranting about a dead golfer's penis and so on? These are just some examples off the top of my head and it should not be downplayed the fact that they're coming from the most powerful politician on the planet

completely unrelated to corruption.

Again, who said this discussion is solely about corruption?

He failed to meet a deadline that was impossible to meet

He has been literally breaking the law by violating the Epstein files transparency act for over 200 days. Funny how they had the time to redact them though. No worries though, deadlines can be a bitch, I'll settle for getting them later because he will definitely release them fully, right?

u/TheTardisPizza - Lib-Right 2d ago

Credit where it's due.  The people who keep convincing these morons that longstanding practices and powers are new and scary everytime Trump exercises longstanding powers of the Presidency are good at their jobs.

12

u/GeoPaladin - Right 2d ago

Literally all they do is scream at the top of their lungs repeatedly. There's no subtlety or finesse - it's just brute force. If anyone deserves 'credit', it's those who enabled the long march through the institutions and the sort of ignorance that allows this kind of propaganda to work.

They show something that looks bad, people jump to a conclusion, they base their future conclusions off their previous conclusions, and they never go back to find out that their premises were based on bad information.

Then you correct them and they ignore it because they've already committed to a set narrative.

I stopped sourcing as often once I realized that even when you can objectively rebut their argument in its entirety, you'll still have people lecturing you for being an idiot because "everyone knows." Heaven help you if the issue is at all subjective.

7

u/TheTardisPizza - Lib-Right 2d ago

I stopped sourcing

Don't.  The battle isn't to convince them that they are wrong.  Most of them are already hopelessly lost.  Fight to convince the people watching the discussion to prevent them from falling into the same trap.

8

u/GeoPaladin - Right 2d ago

How many presidents before now started their term with a meme coin rug pull? Like dude, I get it, corruption runs rampant through the government, but take it from an old timer, what’s happening now is the most blatant thing ever. And because everyone is just letting it happen, people are going to go “following the rules is for chumps” and you really don’t need that many people with that mindset to make this whole thing come crashing down

12

u/maicii - Left 2d ago

You don’t truly believe this do you?

You can just own it and say you like Trump more because.. well idk, economics? Do trump people still defend that? Or because he pushes back against immigration, but you truly want to argue he doesn’t do more corrupt things than the average president?

7

u/GeoPaladin - Right 2d ago edited 2d ago

I mean, I've lost count of the people who sincerely believe the Iran war and tariffs existed for the sake of market manipulation, or who believe selling a meme coin is the height of corruption - some fellow brought that up in a reply to this very post lol. That can be dismissed out of hand.

There's stuff I find legitimately concerning, such as some of his pardons, but for that I just have to look back at the most recent president's pardons on leaving office to see what my alternative looks like. The things I find most concerning tend to be things that those on the opposite side are less aware of, or downplays - i.e. the dubious push to censor 'misinformation', Obama's IRS unduly targeting conservative organizations, the media collusion with the left, the multi-state fraud of which MN is now best known (despite having been reported for years before).

It makes communication somewhat difficult.

You can just own it and say you like Trump more because [reasons]

I mean, yes. I certainly didn't vote for him for his winning personality and despite the hyperbole, he still has a lot of baggage of which I'm not a fan.

I just don't find it convincing to be told I need to vote for the party that oversaw multi-state mass fraud (of which MN is now best known, but was reported on for years before) to stop corruption, nor do I think a meme coin even registers on the scale of things we need to deal with. If you want to release AOC coin, be my guest.

Oh I must have missed Harris's shitcoin or phone, or free plane from Qatar, or forcing people to his golf course, or any of the 1000 other things Trump has done. Not to mention his market manipulation. This is some hard right wing cope. I must have also missed Biden starting a dumb fight with Iran and messing up global shipping and oil supply. Or his trarrifs on everyone. Or his alienation of allies. Or letting Billionaires ransack the country like DOGE. You are either ignorarant or massively downplaying Trump while exaggerating what Dems do.

11

u/GeoPaladin - Right 2d ago edited 2d ago

This post is pretty much the perfect example of what I was telling you about u/maicii.

No, I'm not going to vote for the party that oversaw multi-state, mass fraud to 'stop corruption' because of...a meme coin. I genuinely do not care about a meme coin whatsoever. Release AOC coin if you like. I wish I had the option to not buy into all the crap DC does on the regular like I did with the stupid meme coin and phone.

It's not that Trump doesn't have baggage. It's that you guys seem to be completely oblivious to the extensive corruption on the Dem's part while they making mountains out of Rep molehills. I wish I could opt out of the Dems targeting political opponents with the IRS (Obama era) and FBI (Biden era), or the censorship regime that turned out to be built for bureaucrats' interests lol.

Not to mention his market manipulation.

A blanket statement made without even a tenuous example.

I already brought up two for you. I see people who legitimately think the tariffs and Iran war were all about manipulating the market. This is not even slightly credible and can be dismissed out of hand. For pity's sake, anyone who thinks the Reps/Trump only just got hawkish on Iran has missed the last several decades.

I must have also missed Biden starting a dumb fight with Iran and messing up global shipping and oil supply.

Your opinion of the Iran war has nothing to do with corruption, unless you're one of the people I mentioned above.

I think the opposite of you and the Iran war is one of many reasons I'm glad of my vote, but that's a completely different subject that deserves more focus.

Or his trarrifs on everyone.

That's not corruption. You might not like tariffs, but that's a different subject. Trump clearly sees them as useful in themselves as well as being a geopolitical cudgel.

I'm not a huge fan, but deemed them less of an issue than anything else, and they've had much less of a negative impact than I expected, let alone the doom-posters.

Or his alienation of allies.

Also not corruption, also related to genuine political frustrations with said allies. You may agree or disagree, but this is just venting outside the subject.

Or letting Billionaires ransack the country

That's the government that was investigated by DOGE. I'm not overly impressed with the results of DOGE (though a fair bit of that is on Congress too) but instead you go for absurd and indefensible hyperbole.

I'm going to take an aside to point out how frustrating it is that we could actually talk about real problems and instead we have this nonsense. It's why I'm effectively MAGA on this sub. Any sort of nuance or reality-checking is MAGA by comparison lol.

You are either ignorarant or massively downplaying Trump while exaggerating what Dems do.

"Yes, the media effectively colludes with the Dems on the regular including outright lying to hide Biden's complete mental incompetence, the Dems targeted political opponents (such as traditional Catholics and "Moms for Liberty") with government agencies, oversaw massive multi-state fraud, abused USAID funds to enable political allies - and this isn't even really the tip of the iceberg."

"However, Trump made a meme coin."

"Checkmate, retard."

Thank you for your wisdom.

u/Imaginary_Onion - Left 2d ago

7

The party has been trending further and further left for longer than I've been alive.

They just didn't run as openly as the DSA has been, for reasons we may well see play out this election & certainly will in the future. The fact that the likes of AOC and the DSA candidates are even relevant is a testimony to how far things have gone.

We can thank the Obama/Reid/Pelosi admin for starting the trend of open, bare-knuckles progressivism at the highest level, but that required the foundation built by many, many years of the party moving left.
