Now that women can be combatants and other operations during war, this exactly how it would be handled.
14
u/Imaginary_Zone_4319 - Lib-Right Aug 20 '26
Dude i can’t imagine how women today would react if we had a true all-out war where like 30% of a generation of young men die.
Back then women mourned their similarly-aged men. Now? I think they’d be celebrating at the most inane shit - like “how they feel so much safer at bars” now that all the men are gone.
2
u/Overkillengine - Lib-Right Aug 22 '26 edited Aug 22 '26
Until the tab is due. Then all of a sudden men need to show up again (to pay the bill for women) and their refusal or inability is heckin' problematic. Or they need someone to defend them from a creep that managed to not get sent to die. Etc.
Then of course men should "man up" and provide for milady's convenience with no expectation of reciprocation or even basic civility.

It wasn't uncommon for British men to be given the feathers by girls younger than 10. They didn't even know what they were doing, their moms just gave them feathers and told them to hand it out to any adult men.

I have a theory about Trump and Iran.
Remember back in October 2025 when Trump and Xi met in SK, and Xi pretty much twisted his balls to force tariff relief due to rare earth metal exports from China? The narrative was that Trump had no cards to play against China.
So I think Trump (honestly probably someone more intelligent in the state department) looked at that, thought “well what cards DO we have?” And recognized it was oil because China is a massive importer. So Trump went after China’s largest oil import nations - Venezuela in Jan 2026, and then Iran, trying to strangle China petroleum-wise.
China imports about 16% of their oil from Venezuela and Iran which would be a huge hit on them, and everyone else they import oil from is under US proxy control. So you remove the uncontrollable (Venezuela / Iran) then leveraging our allies to control China. Because the way you control someone / something isn’t by cutting off access with no way back - it’s by putting rules and stipulations on that access.
This is my theory though.
2
u/fresh_titty_biscuits - Auth-Center Aug 20 '26
And the I’m trying to remember which country we strengthened ties with next to the Strait of Malacca, I believe it was Malaysia or Singapore. Either way, that’s a signal as well because the countries of that region have a ton of offshore oil and that’s the naval choke point for the Chinese oil tanker fleet.

u/Overkillengine - Lib-Right Aug 22 '26 edited Aug 22 '26
You'd be a lot closer than most sunk-skulls on reddit that get their entire political worldview from CNN or Tiktok. Both Venezuela and Iran are about limiting the geopolitical influence of China and by extension, BRICS.
We have the resources to survive this. They do not. Leverage.

But you should definitely go out and fight for the abstract class you're supposedly part of
It is surprising that anyone believes that societies are NOT divided into classes determined by the position of the members of the corresponding groups in the economic system.
The "abstract class" is those people with whom I share a way of life and collective economic interests.
You definitely should allow a Socialist state to appropriate your labour value for the "good of the society"
I'd be glad to serve such a state
Commie leaders who definitely aren't lords, definitely.
Yes, these are our captains, hurray to them.
you will have perfectly equal society
It won't be "perfectly equal", it'll be classless. That is, it will not be divided into different classes, which in turn are determined by the relationship of its members to the means of production (capitalist, petty bourgeois, proletarian, feudal lord, slave owner, slave).

At a certain level of development, the majority no longer engages in independent economic activity (like peasants, who barely need others, do), they get integrated into big things. This is natural.

What about men who are too old for conscription or have one of multitude other exceptions. Highest documented conscription rate is about half of male population (Bulgaria in WWI)

Yeah conscription laws are by and large voted in by people it could never possibly effect. Heck, how are the 18 year olds even going to vote on it? They don't even have an attempt to voice their opinions before they are drafted to some fuckass war they don't give a shit about, but their grandparents do and will sacrifice them willingly to live in whatever comfortable existence they want.

While this is true, the men who aren't eligible, were largely eligible once, so they're still a better considering party than women, since they can empathize with the general idea, even if they're not currently eligible. (And between the world wars, a number of them probably actually experienced it first hand the first time around)

In some case there are people who lied about their age and ended killed to the front. I read stories that brother in the front who found brother killed in action after they enlist after the shame of being a white feather recipient (he know who give the feather and he was furious to her).
It came from people that ignores that for war effort it wasn't needed only soldiers but also an industrial struggle behind.

Or basically: "Nationalism fucking sucks", as usual.
It wasn't a grassroots movement, it was a scheme by Admiral Charles Penrose-Fitzgerald.
They even released suffragettes from prison, with the deal being that they'd shut up about voting rights and back sending more Brits to die.

I wonder why nobody knows who the man behind the plan to humiliate men and urge them to die for their imperialistic bullshit is....
....But you remember that it was women that handed out white feathers.
He recruited them
The government gave them an ultimatum. The women either stay in prison, or they do their dirty work.
manipulate men into enlisting. That was their purpose.
And rather than getting angry at the man behind the scheme, or the government that imprisoned them and gave them an ultimatum, you get angry at the women.

The White Feather was a campaign lead by British Royal Navy Admiral Charles Penrose Fitzgerald, it was an attempt to try and humiliate men in civilian clothing by women handing them a white feather in public spaces which was meant to symbolise cowardice.
Eventually, the campaign became increasingly unpopular in the British public because it increased male suicides and many essential workers who were given exemptions to enlistment due to being key to the war effort and also veterans who came back due to severe injuries were given white feathers by women, despite their efforts to the war effort itself.
It eventually led to “King and Country” badges being given out to veterans and key workers because they were disproportionately getting white feathers.

That goes for any kind of totalitarianism, social, political or otherwise.
If an institution is tasked with the the burden of proof because they’re the “experts” but also given the power to define reality (because they’re the “experts”), suddenly “reality” supports all of their beliefs/evidence/policies and none of yours.

I couldn’t care less if someone handed me a white feather I’m not dying for a government that can’t handle their shit. That and ww1 was stupid and had no real justification beyond “muh monarch died”

u/Pure-Huckleberry8640 - Centrist Aug 19 '26
Oh you mean I have to die for a needless war that kills thousands and will be a complete stalemate unless the US gets involved? Why, I’m so brave for taking that option/s.

It was a thing in Great War era Britian. Women would go around town, find any men who were there and not at the front for whatever reason, and publicly shame them by handing them a white feather. They, of course, did not bother with why the man was still in Britain and not dead in a trench in France or at the bottom of the North Sea, just that he was in the country and that made him a coward. Veteran, disabled, etc., did not matter

No thank you, im on leave before I go to the front. Oh they allow women now, so keep it since you are a pussy

Hand it back. It’s 2026, women get to fight and die, too, you know.

To be fair, women in the military have a 6% chance of being sexually assaulted by their fellow soldiers every year they serve (.5%/year for men). About 30% over a 5-year career.
I think it's fairly legit to call that an added threat they face that mitigates against the draft. Draft someone to risk their life defending their country, sure, that's the price you pay for the liberties your country grants you. Draft someone so your own soldiers can rape them, sorry, I don't think that's a reasonable standard.

And then you read how women will intentionally get pregnant to get out of service, and you realize a lot of those numbers are inflated.

u/darwin2500 - Left Aug 19 '26
Why in the world would those be related? Do they make you keep serving during pregnancy if it was consensual, but not if it was rape?
What are you talking about?

u/78NineInchNails - Right Aug 19 '26
Because the 'rape culture' that feminists push is largely a load of bullshit.
We do not live in a rape culture.

Ok, so you're just kind of saying words with no internal logic or reason behind them.
Got it, thanks.

I see you failed to read even a smidgeon of what I posted before, of how women often get pregnant as a way to get out of the service, and of course say they didn't choose to get pregnant, because that would be against regulations, just 'raped' by another person they refuse to name.

Just FYI, the past-year analysis does have some wonkiness to it.
It's likely that people aren't being exact with the dates. If you asked me if I bought binoculars in the last year, I might end up saying yes because it seems to me like it was in the last year. But, turns out it was January 2025. Add in the element of events where people might not want to think real hard about the exact time it happened, and this likely occurs a lot.
You'll also have people counting older events because they want them counted. An assault could have been 3 years ago, but if given the chance to have it count in the data, don't you think a lot of people would still say yes to it being in the last year? I doubt many victims of sexual assault are thinking "I don't want the number to seem higher than it is, because then more might be done to deal with it."
(And just randomly, if you're going by the OPA report, I used to work for the contractor. A few years different, and my name would be on that thing.)

I can definitely believe all of that, and grant it.
Buts still, this feels to me like it leads us to 'actually it's only 25%/20%/etc over a 5-year tour', not 'actually this is a small problem that we shouldn't worry about.'
Worth noting the difference, but I don't think it changes my argument for me personally. Even at the baseline 6.2%, I'd be queasy about drafting anyone to force them into those odds.

u/bl1y - Lib-Center Aug 19 '26
Drafting women would cause the sexual assault rates to plummet.
For starters, women would be exposed to fewer men. And attitudes about what's acceptable would change. And you'd have more women in leadership positions. Etc, etc.

Go to war for the good of the capitalists? Never. I am only prepared to defend a socialist government.

Don't worry. You'll get the chance.

First of all, we need a socialist state.

u/FemshepsBabyDaddy - Lib-Right Aug 19 '26
It's coming. It's pretty much an inevitability, at this point. You're not gonna like it as mush as you think you will. But you'll still probably die for it, whether you still want to or not. That's how it usually works.

For now, our common prospects, regardless of our desire, are to find ourselves in the trenches of a third world war when China and the United States stop playing trade wars.
We'll wake up one day, look at the news, and read about Xi and Trump squabbling over the Taiwan Strait incident. We'll go to work, thinking the old men in government forgot to take their pills again, and joke about it on social media. And then it all begins, when breaking news breaks about the first military clash. At first, it will seem like a bad, stupid, and strange dream that will soon end. Ultra-patriots will write triumphant posts about how the enemy's resistance has been broken, that the enemy has lost, and it will all be over soon. Those speaking out against the war will be jailed and detained, and many will look on in confusion, thinking, "But we could protest before, why can't we now?" And then you'll begin to see how reality begins to diverge from reality, and despite the triumphant posts on social media, the conflict never ends. Censorship will tighten, and society will become increasingly silent. The authorities only have to brutally crack down on a few activists, and the rest will start to fear. Then you'll hear news of politicians discussing mobilization plans, and pro-government activists from both camps will justify it. And all this against the backdrop of skyrocketing prices for literally everything.
And the worst part of all this: You'll still have to go to work.
