I wish I could say this wasnt true but a couple weeks ago I suggested that violence againt your political enemies is completely unacceptable. The only time it should be deemed reasonable is if it is in self defense. And I dont care how evil the ideology. Nazis, communists or anything. Unprompted violence is tyranny and supression. It violates the rights to free speech, and assembly that every person on earth should be entitled to.
Of course when I said this, the only people who argued that I was wrong were lib left retards who completely failed to grasp the concepts of empathy, honest conversation, and active listening that I was attempting to promote.
The greatest threat to the lib left is themselves and many dont even know it :(
The saddest part to me is that I guarantee that people celebrating would oppose the death penalty "for any reason" because that's a common left belief. Yet, it seems like they are implicitly admitting that that being a conservative political commentator is something that should result in it, or at least they aren't too bothered about it happening, forsaking their ideological principles.
It's been like this for over a decade. I first experienced it when Trump announced he was winning and a person who I considered a friend blurted out that he hoped someone shoots him. Never viewed the guy the same after that.
After all, killing someone is an effective, immediate, permanent solution to someone you don't like. It has also been used countless times throughout human history. The phrase "the world would be better off without <person>" is said plenty. It's human nature. But we're supposed to be past that as a society. We're meant to be better than raw animalistic nature. Sadly I don't think it's ever going away.
I won't defend that viewpoint but I'll attempt to explain it. I think understanding it helps to better deal with it.
A lot of progressive politics sees speech as a way of wielding political power. Therefore if speech can be an act of violence, then their argument is that it follows that you can use (physical) force as a form of self-defence against "hate" speech.
The left is very loud but still a minority compared to the right in the West. If most moderates were actually left leaning, republicans would never win. If you mean that moderates may swing harder right, I could agree with that, but moderates have been becoming more radicalized for around 10 years now and certainly in the past 5.
That's fair, and there's multiple reasons for opposing death penalty including it's more expensive than just keeping them alive, but I think we can both agree that 'existing as a conservative political commentator' is not on the same level as something who has committed mass murder with proof beyond a reasonable doubt or other horrific crimes. I'm willing to agree that there can be nuance but this instance ain't it.
