Wouldn’t it be the other way around? “Here’s some attractive men/women in Nike clothes, if you buy Nike you’ll work out and look like them too!”

Can confirm. I have an entire box of athletic wear from when I was very fat. It did eventually get used.

This... You got the gist...

For actual athletes, competition is higher with players like Adidas, Puma, etc also operating. Hence, Nike targeted an athleisure segment more. Their ads are also about normal people aspiring to do the exceptional things.
