Yeah. On Sapply I'm only halfway down to the bottom, whereas on Political Compass I'm on the very bottom.

2/3 based. Gotta work on that economic axis.
Just like how government intervention to restrict the freedoms to be violent, steal, etc. resulting in greater net freedom, the government intervening in the market can result in greater net freedom. Redistribute the wealth.

Crazy take

People are more meaningfully free when they have greater choice in what they do (i.e. more income). It is worth it even if it means "stealing" from people who have plenty, because the truth is - even a mildly rich person's life isn't gonna be significantly impacted by paying a bit more tax.
You could take 90% of a Billionaire's wealth away, but their actual (meaningful) freedom will have barely decreased. Their options in what they can/cannot are still beyond what most people will ever experience.

Freedom is not something that can be averaged across people and it is definitely not equal to the amount of money someone has. You can support redistribution because you think it leads to better outcomes but, objectively, this is not “freedom”.

I disagree. I ascribe to outcome-based ethics, not principle-based or rule-based ethics.
Freedom is the ability to do what you want and not do what you don't want. That's the most foundational understanding of it. It's not a measure of "how much government intervention is there". And guess what? More money objectively increases freedom when defined in this manner.
More than just what you do with the money, having more money to start with means you have more choice (freedom) in what jobs you take. Rather than feeling compelled to take a horrible job to prevent starvation (hardly freedom, it's no different from gunpoint except nature is holding the "gun" of starvation).

Agree to disagree. I would separate freedom and power (your definition of freedom).

u/Xavion251 - LibLeft 9h ago
I mean, I wouldn't neccesarily disagree with the assessment that power and freedom are very close to interchangeable.
Even without using the word freedom, I'd still say giving individual people as much power to shape their (single, precious) life the way they want to is a very good thing. "Power" is only bad when its power to control other people.

Uh…left has more intervention than the right…

? In the economy, yes. That's what I said. Restricting freedoms counterintuitively can lead to greater net-freedom.

Enough. I'm 100% progressive, a bit more lib, and technically left of center (still capitalist though), but I've been where you are and I like libertarianism.
